is he under 25 or a full time student? if so, then yes, i believe they can claim him. but if he is over 25 or not a full time student, then no, they cannot and he must file on his own.

they already did thier taxes and claimed him. Hes only 18 and a full time student.
So he doesnt have to do them at all then? I thought if you made over a certain amt you still had to do them even if you're being claimed?

i don't know. sorry, i can't be more help. my understanding was that if your parents are claiming you, you don't have to file individually.

Re: if my parents claimed my little bro as a dependant on their taxes...

i got this off of IRS.gov:

you are an unmarried dependent, you must file a tax return if your earned and/or unearned income exceeds certain limits. To find these limits refer to Filing Requirements for Dependents in Publication 501, Exemption, Standard Deduction and Filing Information. If part of your earned income is from tips, see Tax Topic 402, Tips.

Yes. My daughter worked and was a full-time student last year and we claimed her on our taxes. She still needed to file her own.

Yeah...and I think there is a question to the effect of "has someone else claimed you" or something like that. So he would answer yes.

yes, he needs to file on his own in addition to being claimed by your parents.

I believe the cutoff is around $1400...if he had made UNDER $1400, he wouldn't have to file individually - because he made OVER, he does have to.

Yes he has to and he will have to claim "0" so they are going to take a lot of $$$$$.

Yep, that's right. Not sure about the amount, but I know when I worked as a teenager and made good money, my dad always did a filing for me, as well as claim me dependant on his return.
