If Obama or McCain wins....
Who takes over the position they vacated? Who becomes Senator of Illinois or Arizona in their place?

I *think* the Governors of the respective states appoint replacements. Biden would also need to be replaced.
There was talk that Sarah Palin could appoint herself to Ted Steven's Senate seat, should she and McCain lose, and if Stevens wins.

I don't know that she will, but it was speculated.
She doesn't strike me as that ambitious.
