I think it may depend on the town...My parents are in Islip and filed a complaint many years ago against their neighbor & they were told that it was 100% anonymous...

I am pretty sure it's anonymous - but you can ask when you call if that applies in your town. It probably won't be hard for the person to figure out. I mean - if I have a challenge with someone I will tell them and I would only call the town if it remains unresolved.. so they'd KNOW it was me! Chat Icon

Re: If someone files a complaint to the town, about a neighbor

I pretty much figured it was anonymous...but I was hoping that I might be able to find out something.

It isn't even for me...I have a neighbor, he and his wife are the nicest people. Young couple, he is handicapped. He is in a wheelchair, has been for a number of years.

Well, they have a boat. They have since we moved in. Well, in the boating season they park the trailer out on the street (with the boat on it), have been doing that for the past 3 seasons. Well, this year someone called the town on them. Well, news to all of us (my DH and I are boaters as well), but we always thought it was fine to have a trailer on the street as long as the trailer was registered. Well as per the town of Brookhaven, that is not the case.

Poor couple has no place to park the boat - for a couple of reasons.

I was just curious, if there was a way to find out, which one of my nasty neighbors called on them Chat Icon Chat Icon

So if anyone works for Brookhaven and can find out, can you let me know Chat Icon

They called for that?!? Sheesh! If that's the worst of the problems on the block the callers should have counted their blessings & left them alone! My parents called because the guy was an violent & abusive drunk/drug addict who illegaly rented to all sorts of scary/shady tenants while also running a landscaping business (with 3 heavy trucks & rat-attracting refuse) from his driveway. He had a history of beating girlfriends & the cops were there weekly so they were afraid to approach him about any of it. They would have LOVED a neighbor who's biggest sin was a boat trailer in the street!!

Some township are anonymous to avoid retaliations between neighboors.

About 1 mile from my house, as I pass a street there is a boat on the street with a blue tarp. I see the boat and trailer only on the street during the boating season but I will honest, I would hate for that thing to be the view from my windows everyday in the Summer. It's huge and with the blue tarp, it's so disgusting looking. It's a huge eyesore!

I'm pretty sure most towns have the same rule. Nothing large really is allowed on the street without a permit. Dumpsters, Pods, etc.

I wouldn't want to look out my window at someone else's boat either. My old neighbor used to park his 70's style rusted out crappy @ss camper in front of my living room window. The GD thing blotted out the sun. My neighbor across the street called on him and they made him put it in his driveway.

I am pretty sure you can remain anonymouse-we just filed a complaint w/ the town of brookhaven for our gross neighbors behind us-they have an above ground pool that hasn't been covered/cleaned in a year-there are mosquito larvae floating all in itChat Icon We were allowed to remain anon.

I hope not! I mean, I haven't filed one, but if I did, I surely would want to remain anonymous! Chat Icon

It is anonymous. I'm sorry about your neighbors but I would hate to look at that all season long. It is sort of an eye sore. We aren't allowed to park anything not even our own cars in the street at night. I like it that way.

I am sure they are nice people and it's sad that he is handicapped. But...rules are rules. Adjacent homeowners really should not be subjected to large objects/eyesores on the street. I don't blame whomever called to be honest, so I personally hope they can and will remain anonymous.

Re: If someone files a complaint to the town, about a neighbor

I was just talking to my neighbor today and this was actually brought up in our conversation.

Long story short she was complaining about her neighbor... saying her neighbor called the town on her for something stupid.

When my neighbor called the town and asked who filed the complaint, the town rep actually told her who filed it.

Im in the town of Smithtown...and Ive lived in the Town of Huntington...

If you call and make a complaint they will ask you who they are...it is suppose to stay anonymous but they still ask who you are. So I guess there is always a way that that information is going to get out there...

Sometimes though..if you call...you can find out where the complaint came from.

We had a complaint on us when I lived in Huntington. The complaint was that we had an illegal apartment in our basement (which we did not)..I did call to inquire about the complaint and was told that the complaint was made "internally". Which meant that someone from the town suspected that we had an illegal basement apartment...

Re: If someone files a complaint to the town, about a neighbor

do you think maybe it was not a neighbor? maybe a town worker, like the garbage truck workers or street cleaners or something? I know someone that got a letter to remove their basketball hoop off of the street! they were not under the impression that a neighbor had called, but that it was the rules of the town.
