if the terrible 2's are worse then the horrific 1's i'm leaving!
OMG my child has been possessed by *****!!!!!
she will be 1 in 2 weeks and the temper tantrums are at an all time high.. now she throws herself on the floor and while in the process of getting down to the floor hits her head, flailing her arms and legs all while screaming and crying. this usually happens when she doesnt get what she wants, or i remove her from something bad she was doing or just becase shes PO'ed. this i could deal with i just walk away.
BUT NOW... we have hitting and when she did it a few months back i couldnt tell if she was playing or ment it so i just sternly said NO and held her hand. now she is blatently smacking me when shes mad,she gets this angry face like "B!tch watch out! " she yells really loud and bam smacks me in the face. usually this happens right before the melt downs.
if im laying on the floor while shes playing she will pull my glasses off throw them and then smile at me... 2 seconds later shes smacking me hard in the face. im VERY VERY consistant with discipline.
she tends to LAUGH/SNICKER and then continue the bad behavior, if its smacking she smacks harder. 
Dh lets her get away with anything because he claims he doesnt see her much so he doesnt want that time to be him yelling... so im ALWAYS the bad guy. im disciplining her when she hits him. and i feel like it has to be coming from the both of us. 
tonight its to the point where i just want to throw in the mommy towel im at my breaking point!!! if 2 is worse then this then im going to need a nice padded room and lots of drugs!

DS is starting too... the hitting, the biting... it's pretty bad. My DD was horrible from 2 to about 4, so I am kind of prepared. Just keep a bottle of wine handy... lol

I'm kinda there with you. I was going to post about this actually.
Lexi has been biting me- CONSTANTLY. She will bite me and i'll yell "OUCH!" tell her that biting isn't nice and it hurts me and then sit her down away from me. Today I actually had to grab her face to get her to let go of my skin because she got me so good. I have bruises from her bites. She cried for a second and then came back and did it again. She bit me SIX times within 2 hours. It's gotten to the point where i'm afraid to be close to her because she sneak attacks me all the time. The best part is- i'm the only one she does this to.
I don't know how to effectively discipline a 10 month old, so I just do what I can. She thinks it's funny when I "yell" at her and just keeps trying to get ahold of my skin. I've tried ignoring it but she actually hurts me! It's hard not to yell out in pain.

They are different. At one a lot of the frustration is an inability to communicate. As they get a little older they can communicate their needs a bit better but are still getting a hold on their emotions. They are also struggling for power. I expect things will be difficult in that area until about four and I expect the tantrums to resume when she is a preteen...

I can relate; DS just has a temper, not hitting or biting or anything (yet!) but some days I have freaking HAD IT You're doing great, and you are RIGHT that DH has to back you up. Yes discipline is a PITA but ask him to think about it from a 1yo's perspective; it's very confusing that it's OK or "funny" with one person but "bad" with the other!!! If he backs you up you'll have this sorted out much faster.
When DS got screechy I would usually just sing the ABC song. Totally distracted him and I could do that cheerfully, when all I felt like doing was yelling back.
I am 100% convinced that this "phase" is why God makes 'em so freaking cute.

but you're scaring me anyway-b/c my DS is almost one and i haven't seen this stuff yet and am scared it's coming!

sorry, 3's are the worst
I agree though, DH has to show a united front and be AS consistent as you are, otherwise it sends a mixed message
as far as biting goes.....Don't call cps on me , but when she bites, bite her back. Let her feel that it DOES hurt. I'm not saying break skin and leave a mark....just do it hard enough that she reacts and understands that it hurts. We did that with ds and he never bit again HTH

No, it seems like 3-4 is the peak, and it gets better from there on, at least with DS. They start understanding more, and primarily, start *wanting* more, so you have more bargaining chips....  DS is 7, and I work with many of his agemates in soccer, karate, and Cub Scouts, and I can see the changes in the kids from year to year.
