Re: If you are married...what do you claim for taxes on your check, married or single?
I always claimed 0 but now that I am only working PT and will be in a much lower tax bracket I am claiming 2. We have never had to pay and we have my daughter so I think it will work out fine.

we both claim single 0 and DH takes additional w/h. We pay at the end of the year so we like to minimize it at the end of the year and take some of it out over the course of a year.

I claim 1. I never do 0 anymore because they take out more taxes. i would rather have that extra $$ in my paycheck than 1 day out of the year in April. Plus we always get $$$ back anyway.
It is btter to break even .
agreed- I know it takes discipline but I would rather do my own forced savings by taking out that amount from my paycheck each month and straight into a savings account that is difficult for me to access(credit union far from my house with no online banking).

Im actually "re-doing" my tax form for my PT job. Im changing it to Single 0 because with married 0, they hardly take out anything.

I thought once you were married, you can't file as single anymore and the only options were to file married joint or married separate. Is there an advantage to filing single as opposed to married? I thought the "marriage penalty" was eliminated a few years ago.
You must file your taxes as married. But you can still claim single0... or married withholding at the single rate on your W4.

i claim single 1 then file married...kinda works out well, I get a little more per check but still receive a satisfying refund.
just ETA that i take out my full 401K pretax so it lowers my overall income...we save and get a better return.
