If you are on Synthroid, does your OB monitor your thyroid or an endocrinologist?

I think it depends on why your taking synthroid. My RE put me on synthroid, so when I graduated my OB monitored me. My friend had been on thyroid medicine way before trying to get pregnant so she continued to see her endocrinologist.

Both! It's important to see an endo, too. They specialize in hormonal imbalances, not an OB.

My endo did, but would send copies of my blood work to my ob. But the ob essentially passed that off to the endo. They never said anything about it after they caught it in early pregnancy and I continued appointments with my endo.

If you are on Synthroid, does your OB monitor your thyroid or an endocrinologist?
My RE put me on synthroid and even upped the dosage because it started to rise again. I went to my OB and she wanted me to go off of it for 2 weeks and retest to see if I really need it. I think that was highly irresponsible. The month that I was off synthroid I gained a lot of weight, but my OB doesn't seem concerned. Needless to say at 26 weeks I'm switching OB's and seeing an endocrinologist on Aug 22. I don't have anymore synthroid so I hope I'm not doing this baby any harm by being off it for so long :/

Thats awful bc it can harm the baby it effects brain development i would ask to get a quicker appointment. My dr sent me to endo asap when saw my numbers and the endo got me In asap he was leaving for vacation and wanted me on meds and not to wait

I know!!! I was really upset, but every time I mentioned it to the doctor she said "It's fine." ugh! According to doctor google, the thyroid range should be between .2-3.0. Mine was 3.26 and that is only after 2 weeks of stopping the medication. My OB didn't seem to have any plans on retesting it in the near future either! I called my RE to ask her opinion and she said it should definitely be tested again as the number could still go up.
I tried making an earlier appointment with an endocrinologist, but this is the first one I could get. The doctor that I was referred to wasn't available until January! 
However, I do have an appointment with my new OB this Wednesday so I will ask him too.

My endo didn't have any appointments for 3 months, but when I mentioned pregnancy they fit me in within a week! I would definitely call and tell them the situation if the new ob doesn't give you any synthroid (make sure it's not generic too) My numbers were only 3.96 or something and he put me on it. Your new OB should be able to help you with this . As pp stated I was put on by my RE so my OB monitored .. Seems to be common practice unless you had issues prior to pregnancy

Thanks Jenn. I actually was able to make an appointment with another endocrinologist for tomorrow! I don't want to take any chances with the new OB. I would rather see someone who specializes in it first.

They squeezed me within 5 days too, a new office. Glad you are getting in sooner. For me my TSH is now too low at .2???? getting retested then going to see what they recommend.
