if you call your pediatrician...
if you call your pediatrician at 1pm because your 1 1/2 year old has had a 102-103 fever for over 24 hours (it goes down with tylenol/motrin) and has been vomiting all weekend....do they squeeze you in or tell you to call tomorrow?
before i go look for a new ped, i am just curious if what i was told is normal?!

They would have me come in today. They usually ask me what time I'd like to bring her in, too.
And no matter what, even if the concern doesn't warrant a visit, as soon as I say the words "I'd like to bring her in," they set something up for the same day.

ok i thought it was crazy that they could not fit us in, especially since it was only 1pm!! the kid has not kept anything down (including water) for a couple days and has a fever and just is very 'off'. if it was my older one i could understand, but this is a 1 1/2 year old

This! Sometimes I give them a little detail of what's going on with DS and if I need to bring him in and they always say the Doctor can't tell unless we bring him in so they always put us in same day.

When I call for a sick appt I just say I need a sick appt and they get me in....I have never given info about why.

if you call your pediatrician...
depending who i get if its just the reciponist she usually just tells me what they have that day to come in. I usually ask if they think i should come in; i get say my drs wife who is a nurse she will tell me her opinion if she thinks i should bring in DC but always of course leaves it up to me i like this cause it saves me a co payment if they feel theres really nothing they can do for her at the moment.

They would squeeze her in. It might be later or not the one I want but my child would be seen. But I don't wait that late when my child has been sick to call. But if something last minute came up they would see us.

Same here and my peds actually tell me come now when i call with a sick child. Everytime.
