I don't think they are supposed to be in the front seat at 9 or 10 either.
My DD is 9 and no way in hell would I have her in the front seat.

I'm pretty sure you have to be 12 to sit in the front seat legally.

Thanks. Did you wait till they reached the height/weight limit?

We just got a new car and it is very difficult to fit our current seat rear facing. We’re trying to decide if we should buy a new convertible seat and keep her rear facing or bite the bullet and turn the seat. She’s 7lbs and 4 inches under the limit. She’ll be 4 in a couple weeks.

At 4yo I would turn her around.

DD2 is 5. We'll turn her seat soon because she is getting close to the height and weight limits. We turned DD1 when she was 4.

In NJ, you need to be 13 years old to ride in the front seat. My kids have never sat in the front. As for rear facing, the regulations were different and so we did rear facing until 2.5. My kids were in boosters until nearly 9 when they actually met the weight and height requirements. Dd is barely 80 lbs, and 4 foot 10.

No, they were that old and REAR facing in a carseat (radian brand maybe, that holds big kids?). Ridiculous, their legs were up on the seat. Like I said, she is extreme Chat Icon (oops, maybe I forgot that disclaimer when I initially posted their ages Chat Icon )

I can’t imagine this was actually happening unless these kids were TINY. I think currently the highest weight limit seat for RF is 45-50 pounds and 45 inches. She had a 10yo that was under 50 lbs?? I think the average kid that age is close to 70 lbs.

So even if she was wedging them into the seats it was actually more unsafe for them to be sitting that way.

They weren't tiny kids and I saw them rear facing. Definitely happened and she sent me the seats when I questioned how that can be possible. The seats were legit, but I don't know the details since this was a few years ago! She apparently belonged to some car seat safety forum online and all these other mothers do the same thing. Insane to me.

If you did extended rear facing

If she’s almost 4 and close to the max height/weight, I’d switch her to FF.
