If you got a pet that was a little older - eta pics of new puppy

Not that five months is old by any means - but we got Molly when she was only 2 months. Did you find that the puppy had a hard time adjusting to you and your family?

My husband is worried that since the pup has been with the breeder for five months - that she will miss her and have a hard time adjusting to us.

What do you think?

That shouldnt happen. I am sure you will provide a loving, caring home and she will adjust quickly. 5 months is still young.

What kind of dog are you getting?

Not at all. We got Lucky at 6 moths old. From day one he was like my shadow. He adjusted right away. We got Porter at about 5 months old. He was a different story cuz we got him from a shelter and he was very shy and scared when we got him. We just left him alone and let him come to us when he was ready and a few days later he was a happy go lucky puppy.

She's a shorkie - but could be Molly's twin sister(Molly was a maltese/shihtzu)

My husband was adamant about finding a puppy that looked just like Molly - and we got lucky. Here are her pictures. She looks like a real cutiepie!

She is beautiful...as far as adopting a slightly older dog...I highly recommend it. Especially if you have children and/or work.
We got Misty when she was nine months old and she was attached to us within a week. There was a tiny adjustment period where she went to the bathroom in the house and chewed a few things, but once we got over that hump things were fine.

The bonuses are that they are housebroken (usually) and have some training. We had to do a lot more training with Misty but that was the only issue we had - her previous owners hadn't hardly trained her at all.

Good luck!!!!Chat Icon

OMG!!!!

TAKE HER!!!! SO CUTE AND LOOKS JUST LIKE MOLLY!!!!

I think that any dog that lives with the breeder is going to well trained and well adjusted, even coming to live with you afterwards.

I say ask the breeder what her routines are, etc, and what she/he recommends and your new cutie will love you guys!!!!

Snatch her up, she is gorgeous!!!!

Re: If you got a pet that was a little older - eta pics of new puppy

Thanks guys! The thing that really got us was how the breeder said that belly rubs are mandatory with her. Molly would get her belly scratched for hours if we would do it. She said she's great with kids. Is very loving but also has a spunky side too (which is what we like - because, well, let's be honest - Molly really could have passed for the Devil's Dog at times Chat Icon )

She said she is 90% trained but of course will still have accidents bc she is still a puppy.

I just want her here already! Chat Icon Chat Icon

She is beautiful. I adopted my labradoodle when she was 8mos old and she was attached to us very quickly. She also turned out to be one of the best dogs I've ever had.

We got ours at 5 month from a breeder in Great Neck. He was a dentist and not home much, although his parents lived with him. We got her so late because we got married and we asked if he could hold her until we got back from the honeymoon...with that being said...

We think the reason she's not very affectionate with us and doesn't like to be held, and won't sit on our lap, etc. is because she wasn't shown that much affection in the immediate months after her birth. We weren't with her for those formative months where we could've maybe shaped her personality to be more cuddly. The breeder, we felt was hands off, and she was probably crated most of the time...

On the upside though, I never had to get up in the middle of the night to walk her..as she was able to successfuly hold it until the morning....

You know what - I've been meaning to ask her but in a way I don't even want to know. I don't know why. I have almost asked her that about five times though.

but if keep showing affection, he'll change. one of our dogs we got was a rescue from an abuser.. over time she accepted us and became a cuddler, same with my aunts dog.

We got Dottie at 9 months and it was a little challenging housebreaking her (we had to use different methods), but not bad at all. She's very smart, so it really only took 6 weeks for her to be fully trained.

Good luck!! She looks like such a mushy face!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This depends on the dog...we've had her for 2.5 years now and she still squirms her way out of our arms if we try and hold her while sitting down.

We have had our dogs since they were 10 weeks and they still squirm. They only want to be held when they want or picked up when they want. So I don't think getting a pup would guarantee this anyway. They are individuals like humans, and personalities can vary greatly.
