Re: If you had a choice as to when to put your DC into a daycare/school
I will be enrolling Madelyn in a 2year old program next fall for 2.5 hours a day. I haven't decided if I want to do 2 or 3 days yet. I think she'll truly benefit from the interaction.
One of the perks of doing EI last year was that I got to go to all the area daycares/preschools/nursery school in my area and "scope" them out.

I think 18 months is a great age. If we weren't involved in regular group playdates and such I may have considered it for DD. Two half days sounds like just enough for that age as well.

Re: If you had a choice as to when to put your DC into a daycare/school
I can understand your fears. Matthew was only in limited daycare this summer because DH was home (teacher). Anyway, he was in 2 days per week from 7:45-1. I have to tell you, that half day goes by so quick. I mean, think about it, you drop him off, come home and get yourself ready. Breakfast, coffee. Do a few errands. By the time you know it it is 1pm. And you both benefit from it.
In terms of age, I'd do 18 months because I also think the sooner the better. But keep in mind I've had DS in since 3 months so I have already dealt with the separation a long time ago so take this for what it's worth. Jack is probably going to experience some separation anxiety at first but the sooner he can learn to deal with it the better.
Plus typically at 18 months is when they go to a toddler room. Not sure if this is a valid argument but I'd maybe want to start him when all of the other 18 month olds are starting in the new room too. More seamless, you know?

I think by next Sept. DS will be enrolled in a program here in town. He will be over 2 years old. It's a couple hours a day and I can choose 3,4,or 5 days a week.

since at that age it will only be for a small amoutn of time ( probably 4 hours a week) . I think its fine.
For me I will look into it at 2.5 probably and same thing. Everything I have seen is a 2 day a week 2 hour program. Its more for "me time" then for him.
Preschool is for him I think.

Re: If you had a choice as to when to put your DC into a daycare/school
I am waiting until Sept. - Ale will me 28 months then. I work from home and let's face it, this is my one shot to be a mommy. So I am going to wait.
I hope to do a 2 or 3 day a week program.

I started there at 22 months. I thought it was a great age... I am debating starting DD#2 next summer when she is 18 months or waiting until September when she is closer to 22 months...
I love the change I saw in DD after she started there...and I made friends in the process and now she has lots of playdates
I *think* we have talked about this before and are referring to the same place. I wonder what the age groups are - and if Jack and your DD would be in the same class?!
ETA: If it's not the same place - and we didn't discuss this before -then just ignore me!
Yup, we have talked about it before and it's the same place... I'm pretty sure they would be in the same class next september but i would be doing m/w/f and you would probably be doing t/thurs?

I would probably wait until 2 years old.
I was thinking to do that also.
What is their program at 18 months? What do they do?
All great questions - and I have no answers for you just yet.
This is all just preliminary for me. If we choose to put him in - in January - then I will probably start seriously looking into it - in October I guess?
I'm looking into some of the 2 year separation classes 9which is kind of like preschool) or preschool ones- so they get the interaction as well as some structure. Unfortunately most of the ones I find they have to be potty trained and I have no idea if she will be in Sept (she will be what 26-27 months?) There are a few preschools that have these programs.

SCHOOL! I highly recommend school. I work a lot of daycares and preschools. If you can, go for the school.
