If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

well I did today for the first time- looking for my lost veil

and guess what- my dress is NOT cleaned or preserved- just thrown in the box

my Dad day the place he took it went out of bussiness- can't say I am shocked

so is it too late to take it to my dry cleaner and get it cleaned at least?

I am so upset!

Yes, I opened mine to check it out. But, I was told by the company to do that, otherwise I might not have.

Re: If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

Yes. My cousin borrowed my veil for her wedding.

The dress is neatly folded and set in the box. I just had to untie the veil from the manequin.

The place I brought my gown to called me in to look at the cleaning job and then boxed it up while I waited.

mine is still in the garment bag, from my 11/05 wedding, I really need to get it cleaned. I think you would be ok bringing it to another place. I have also heard good things about wedclean.com.

I cannot believe they did that! no wonder they're out of buisiness Chat Icon

Re: If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

Mine was preserved. I opened the box to find it in another box. Opened that box to find it in one of those see through boxes. I didnt open the see through box b/c I could see it was my dress.

My veil I have it crinckled up in a zip lock bag.

I would have it cleaned. It's not too late. My cousin didn't clean hers until 2 years later and it turned out fine.

I used Wedclean and I was very happy with the results. I was too wary of those places that say you can't open the box because of what happened to you (also happened to someone I know too, but in a different state). Plus, local places wanted to charge me $200+ to clean my gown. Wedclean was a little over $100.

Re: If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

I was told to open the box to inspect the dress. I used Wedclean and for $99 the dress looks brand new! I was shocked, because it snowed on my wedding day and the bottom of the dress was disgusting. It's spotless now. Beth, go to Wedclean.com and check out their prices.

Beth that really stinks. I am so sorry.

I honestly don't know why I would preserve it. Nobody will ever wear mine again. I may just have it cleaned and not preserved and either try to sell it or donate it.

That sux!

Mine is all sealed up, but the box that it's in has a window I can look at it through. I know it's definately mine, I can tell by the detail I can see on the dress. I got one that was pretty hard to find so I'm confident it's mine.

Re: If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

no i didn't open mine - i didn't want to break the plastic seal all around the box.

i got mine done at the local cleaners in E. Setauket (next to the stop and shop) where my parents get all their cleaning done. they know and trust them - so i felt okay trusting them with the process.

i know it's clean bc they had us stop in and look at it before they boxed it. they did a great job -- it was rainy the day of my wedding and i defininitely got the bottom dirty.

i guess i am trusting it's the right dress!

ETA: That stinks that this happened to you!!! But, I'm glad you found out now so you could get it cleaned properly. No, I don't think it's too late!

I opened mine, looking for my lost veil also.

My dress was in there, they did a nice job with it... but my veil was missing. Chat Icon

Re: If you had your dress perserved- did you open the box?

I opened mine...but it wasn't vacuum sealed. So I can look at my dress whenever I want to. I just can't touch it. They gave me acid-free cotton gloves to handle the dress.

It ***** that you have to pay for it again, but you can still get it cleaned.
