Re: If you have an alarm system at home

YUP! or from my stupidity...

storms, electrical interruptions, dead backup batteries can all set it off depending upon the config of the system..

how offten is it happening? more then twice a week? sounds like hardware...

if it is like an ADT or Slomin system which is hooked up and monitored by the company? call them, im sure they are tired of getting false alarms too!

It only happened once. I called the company today (Meenan) and she said it could be a dirty sensor, low battery or maybe a spider (believe it or not) got into the sensor.... She said its a new system so she doesn't think battery and when the alarm came into them, it did not say battery. It scared me to death. It was 130 am, I thought someone was in my house !!!

Yes. When we first bought the house it had the old silver tape on the windows and every once in a while that would dry out and disconnect from the window and set it off.

When we upgraded the system there was a problem with the front door sensor, it would go off randomly in the middle of the night. But it would happen once every couple of months, there was no pattern to it at all. The alarm company kept sending different techs to look at it but they couldn't figure out what the problem was so they finally ripped it out and reinstalled a new one.

Sometimes our phone goes out in the middle of the night and it will go off. Scares the heck out of me. Friggin Fios phone goes out every once in while.

Re: If you have an alarm system at home

Yup!

Our room sensor has gone off three times for no reason.

I rush home from work to find nothing!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The alarm company is claiming it to be a hardware issue.

Of course we are just out of warrantee!!!

We have been bypassing that zone till we can afford to have it fixed.

So annoying!

Once, a few weeks after we got it due to a faulty window sensor. Since then we have been good.

same here. Ours went off about 15 times.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
all from different faulty sensors. One on front door, basement window, etc. Knock on wood, so far so good now.

Re: If you have an alarm system at home

Yes it did once when we were out of town on christmas day. The police came to my house and my friend let them in (she has a key) but everything was ok.

Re: If you have an alarm system at home

Yes, this past winter cause I forgot to lock the kitchen window and the wind got behind it and it opened a crack, I was so spooked that night cause DH was at work, the police had to come to check out the house, I left all the lights on, then realized the next morning it was the kitchen window.

You should be able to have them shut this feature off. You will likely need to send a signed letter.

Re: If you have an alarm system at home

Our motion sensor in the basement was triggered one day. We couldn't identify anything that fell over to trip it but that's probably what happened. I work less than 10 minutes away, and DH is over 20 minutes away but when he got the call he rushed home himself instead of calling me because he didn't want me to go into the house if there was a problem.
