If you have done or will be creating a wish list for your DC's bday or just holiday gifts
Do you expect people to buy the actual items you put on a wish list (even if they buy them at a different store ) or would it be ok if they got you whatever they want as long as it's the similar stuff, meaning lets say you put down particular outfits and toys, people get you clothes and toys BUT not what you had on your wish list. I know this might be bit of a silly question , but I'm very curious. And what do you do for others? I normally buy items from a wish list for family and friends, sometimes I buy them at a different store because maybe it cost less or I saw the item while I was out shopping, but I buy an actual item.

when the in-laws ask me for a list, i'm expecting they want the specifics. And I specifically put on the list details... so rather than just block sorter I would put on the "(name here) block sorter by (brand) in this (color)" and so YES then I expect THAT thing. If I do put something general, like sippy cups- with no specifics, well then I don't care which sippy cup they give me.

to add, i dont care where it was bought if it was the same item.
for others, i just buy what they say they want. otherwise, i give gift receipts.

I would prefer people get the actual item I requested, though I don't care what store they get it at.
I've found though that most of my family does not by off the wishlist I have. They pick out some pretty cool stuff though so it's ok, but sometimes I do wish more people would buy off the list b/c I know my kid best and I know what toys he will like. But in any case I'm just grateful for anything and everything we receive.

I keep a wishlist for DD, more so for myself than anyone else. I like to keep track of things I hear of and want to get her for her birthday or Xmas. If people ask what to get her I will send them the list, but do not expect them to buy only from it.

I only make a wishlist to help family/friends buy DD gifts if they ask for ideas. I am fine with them buying other things too.
If I know someone has a wishlist, I try to but something directly from it, but if not, at least it gives me an idea of the child's developmental level, play interests, etc.

I make is up for the holidays but since DD's b-day is 3 weeks after x-mas I tell people to go by that if they ask.

I would hope that if a person is asking for a wished for item that they would get the make/model suggested. I hope that they would pay the least they could for it as to reap the benefit of the lowest available price. If I am not specific about a product but just give a general category then I don't mind anyone picking something out in that category. But most of all I am thrilled that someone is taking the time to get something nice for my children.

Re: If you have done or will be creating a wish list for your DC's bday or just holiday gifts
I plan on it for my family members only. My sisters always ask, and they like to have an idea of what my kids are in to.
I find it's just easier when so many people are buying gifts for them.
We've done it this way in my family for years, and it works for us.
It gets harder as the kids get older and are no longer into toys. At that point, even the parents don't know what will be under the tree for the kids.

made a wishlist for DS's 3rd birthday. There were some items i wanted specifically (like the kid zoom camera) and some that i put but anything with that theme would have been fine (like anything cars, mickey, mouse, or toy story related)
he got mostly everything form his wishlist.

Re: If you have done or will be creating a wish list for your DC's bday or just holiday gifts
I have already started making both my kids wish lists. They like to do it with me. As we do it, I always remind them that they will not get everything on their list and not to be disappointed if they get other things that aren't on there. The list is mostly for my parents, in laws and some of the closer aunts and uncles. The rest of the family just gets them whatever they want. I appreciate anything they get, but honestly, my kids need so little that I would prefer they buy off the list, rather then the random useless stuff the end up getting them. I make it a point to put lots of different price points on their list so people can buy what works for their budget. I would much prefer my kids get a $5 toy they want then a $20 toy they could care less about.

Re: If you have done or will be creating a wish list for your DC's bday or just holiday gifts
I keep a wishlist but it's mostly for me so I can remember the things that I may want for the kids for birthdays, Christmas, whatever. If people ask, I tell them, but it doesn't matter to me if they buy something off of the list.
Especially as a FTWM, the wishlist helps keep me organized.
Also, I start checking prices on the items in August and purchase things for Christmas when I see a good price.

exactly my thoughts! The reason I asked is because I made a wish list for DS - only for very close family- he doesn't really need anything but clothes, doesn't really have much for fall & winter, he needs clothes for around the house, like sweats , long sleeve and short sleeve onesies and pajamas and stuff like that, comfortable. So that's what I put on the list. Also he likes blocks , so I put blocks on there too, nothing else. Just 12 or 15 items total. H didn't get one thing from the list or even similar to it , he got stuff he doesn't really "need" meaning he got clothes, but nothing even close to what I put on the wish list (he got big heavy knitted sweaters, button down shirts, dressy pants, very heavy, thick, uncomfortable jeans and so on) and he got all the wrong sizes too , so most likely he'll never get to wear any of them , since they will fit him around summer time and it will be too hot he also got few toys he already has (actually every single toy he got , he has it already) Believe me I'm very grateful for anything he gets, but if you are going to get whatever you want why ask me what my DS needs for his bday? Few family members actually suggested I do a wish list and that's why I created one to begin with. I was a bit disappointed but it is what it is. As I mentioned I'm thankful , but still a bit disappointed that he didn't get at least 1 or 2 items from the list or similar to it.
Thanks for all your replies , sorry if I come off as a whiny , snobby B*** (as my sister put it jokingly )
