If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
What did it feel like?
I looked on Web MD and the only sign I have so far is the dull pain in my lower abdomen. I'm going to call the doctor in the AM< but just wondering what it feels like.
TIA!

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
It ached in my lower right abdomen, where the appendix is. It only took a few hours until it became so unbearable that I couldn't stand up straight. DW was nervous because I have a huge tolerance for pain, and I was visibly in severe pain.
I don't know if that's typical, but that's how it happened for me. From first discomfort to the ER doctor just touching my abdomen and saying, "You need surgery", was about 12 hours or so. It was about 10 years ago, so the timing may be a bit off, but it definitely started during the day, and I went to the ER in the late evening (10ish, I think)

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
It is hard to explain, sort of like really bad gas pains in the lower part of my stomach below the belly button. My pain started on the left side and low right above my pelvis. and moved to the left. The pain for me was crippling after a few hours and I could barely move. The pain was more intense if I walked, coughed or moved at all. I have a high tolerance for pain and this pain was unbearable. By the time I got to the hospital I was very out of it from the pain, couldn't think straight. Hope everything is ok.

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
Mine started out as a dull pain in the middle of my chest/stomach area. Then over the course of an hour the pain traveled towards my lower right side. Then it became sooo unbearable that I couldn't move and couldn't breathe. My father had to literally carry me to the car so I could get to the ER. Good thing I got there when i did b/c it was on the verge of bursting

I was pretty young (Jr High) but I remember a constant pain in my lower right abdomen, plus I was vomiting. If someone pressed on that area of my stomach I almost went through the roof it hurt so badly.
I agree--go get it checked out. If you appendix bursts, it could be fatal.

yeah go to the ER.
I was young early 20's my lower side hurt on the "inside" I could just tell something was wrong. I went to the ER thank God too because as the day went on I started to feel almost 100% better and even the Dr's were getting annoyed with me because I wasnt "acting" sick enough...... but I needed it taken out right away.

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
Please don't wait...my brother had appendicitis in middle school and he never complained about any pain until 3am one night when he fell out of bed doubled over and we had to rush him to the ER. His appendix ended up bursting on the way and he almost died. He was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks and has a huge scar. Better to be safe than sorry!

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
Mine started out as a dull ache in the middle of my tummy. I thought it was just a weird stomach ache. I was sent home from school, and the whole day was like a huge fog to me. I remember I ate some toast, and that just made the pain worse.
I went to the ER that night and I was in surgery by Midnight. My white blood cell count was through the roof and the surgeon told my parents it was good they brought me when they did because it was just about to burst.
My sister's burst when she was a 8 - and my entire family was in FL. She was vomiting green and my Mom was in FL with her while the rest of the family went home.

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
Mine was a little atypical and developed over the course of several months (yes, months). I had what I thought was really bad gas pain near my belly button. It got bad enough that I drove myself to the ER (I didn't want to "bother" anyone). After waiting to be seen in the ER for 2 hours, the pain went away. Same thing happened again about a month later. This time I actually was seen by the doctors in the ER, but I was there long enough that the pain went away. Third time being the charm, I drove myself to the ER at midnight, they finally did a CT scan, I had surgery at 7 p.m. As it was done laproscopically, I was discharged at 10:30 the next morning. In hindsight, I was told that the two prior incidences had been flare-ups.

Re: If you have had Appendicitis, what did it feel like?
it started as stomach cramps. i was in hs. school nurse kept saying it was 'gas' and sent me back to class 3x. i called my dad to come get me b/c i knew it wasn't 'gas'. he took me to the er, i was there for hours b/c my white blood cells didn't spike sky high like it should with an appendicitits. they ran every test you could think of. about 8 hours later, i threw up and my white blood cells went sky high, had it removed at 1am. i was in er since 3pm. i wouldn't wish the pain on my worst enemy as it progressed.
