there is a thread on the Crafts board of girls that knit. Maybe they can help you.

that sounds like a great thing... I just recently learned how to knit and I didn't find it that hard at all.
sounds like a great cause and I think it will be easy!

You can learn the basics in an hr. It only takes a little practice to get faster.
You can do blankets right away! Its fun and a great time killer!

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I learned in September. It's pretty easy to learn, but a little difficult to learn how to fix mistakes!
My favorite website for instructional video clips is http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/
Good luck and happy knitting! FM if you want any tips.

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I knit. My mom taught me in an hour. But, my best friend wanted to learn and I got her a dvd with supplies at Target for less then 20 bucks. She taught herself from the video. Also, I'd go to Barnes and Noble and pick up a how to book. I have a few that i use as reference all the time.

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I taught myself to crochet and trust me I am a spaz when it comes to that stuff. My friend learned how to knit and said it was pretty easy too. Just takes practice. Blankets are the easiest because they are a straight run- no patterns needed.
Good luck!

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I learned how to crochet and that was pretty easy - I tried to pick up knitting, but haven't really practiced at all. My friends who knit swear that's easier than crochet - I guess its what you're used to. The event sounds fun - good luck!

I can knit, but for some reason, I cannot crochet AT ALL.

I know how to crochet. The books are difficult for me to follow but my mom showed me and I picked it right up.

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I can do both, but I would recommend crochet for blankets. It goes a lot faster than knitting.

Me too!! I find knitting much easier than crocheting, but my problem is I knit too tightly. It made crocheting next to impossible for me.
Knitting is a great hobby and a wonderful way to relieve stress and tension. Have fun!!

Me too, I knit when stressed. I've made 4 scarfs the last two weeks actually. I knit very tightly as well, I knit the European way, which is tighter.

Re: If you know how to knit, come it
I learned (kinda) by getting out The Idiot's Guide to KNitting and Crocheting from the library -- it was a great book. I just have to practice more!!
