If you live on LI but you work in the city...
Do you still have to pay city residence tax??? My BIL just started a new job and they are taking $70 a week out of his check for this. Will he get this back at the end of the year or does he still have to apy this because his shop is based out of NYC???

no, you do not pay the tax if you do not live in NYC. he needs to get this fixed. He will get it back when he files his taxes next year.

NO! there used to be an old commuter tax, but that is long gone...

Tell him to contact payroll ASAP, they should no better than to take it out, if he still has a problem tell him to contact the his supervisor. If he still has a problem I can send you the NY City Tax reg.
