yes, and it's usually he person who "has the counter" as their station for the night. So they are getting "tables".
I usually throw a couple bucks, because they generally DO pack the order, get the dressings, utensils and sodas, etc.
They aren't just getting a bag from the kitchen.

I always tip the person putting the order together...I tip at chinese restaurants too...and at the nail salon, and the hair salon...and usually when there's a tip jar out I at least throw my change in it (at a coffee shop, etc)...
My father drove a cab for a while after Pan Am went out of business, and then he valet parked at night after his office job to help put me throught college, and I worked as a waitress and a bartender for years....
it's only a few extra dollars-but it can totally make a difference to the person serving you....and if I don't have the money to tip-I don't order out, or go out to eat.

Unless, they're delivering it to my door...I just pay for the bill. They did what I paid for...a tip is for the service they provide you while you're there.

I always feel so anti tip on these boards.
I swear, I'm a really generous tipper when I go to a restaurant, but I think the whole tipping thing has gotten waaaaay out of control.

Tip??? for what? Taking my money when I pick up my own food???!! If they delivered, they would get a tip, but they don't do anything extra. If anything, it's less work than waiting on as at the diner. It's the same as going to Burger King for take out, I don't tip them either! No way!
Not true. I worked at a restaurant that was very busy as a waitress. We would have to take the time to take the order, double check it, pack it up make sure all utensils and sides were in there and take the $$ and give change. Anyone who has been a server knows that taking this much time away from the tables IN the restaurant could make your tips suffer there Not sure what restaurant minimum wage is but when i did it it was 2.13. Not sure what regular minimum wage is but thats what they get at BK. I think its around 6 bucks an hr. i always TIP A FEW BUCKS FOR TAKEOUT. nOT 15 % BUT SOMETHING.

I give a $2-3 dollars.
On a side note, tips usually go to the person you leave it to right? And they have to give a portion of that to the bus boys and who ever else?

Fancier places usually pool their tips. Everyone splits. Mid-level places you usually tip out at the end of the night. For instance 10% of liquor sales to the bartender and a portion to bus boys. I don't think a hostess should be tipped because she is making a decent hourly wage. But waitresses/waiters--yes
