If you plan on working til the very last minute...
just how last minute do you mean?
I planned on working until I went into labor, but the more I think about it, the more freaked out I get about the drive from work to home (45 minutes) and if my water broke at work or in the car...well, I think I'd just about die!
How can you stop working w/out stopping too far in advance (taking away time after the baby is born)? Just go by what the doctor says re: dilation, effacement, etc.? Or stop a week before your due date?

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I planned on working until the last second (bag in car, plan for getting to the hospital from work...) but one day before I ended up giving birth I realized that I just didn't want to do it anymore...I was 80% effaced and 2 cm at that point...I just had a feeling (hard to explain, sorry!) that it was time for me to stop working and it worked out for me...

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I planned on working up until the last minute to save more time with the baby at home later. I was due 6/20 (a Weds), and I worked until that Fri (6/22) b/c baby wasn't going anywhere, she was comfy! They scheduled my induction for 6/27 (Weds pm), so I went on leave the Monday before. Now that I'm back to work, I'm glad I saved as much time as I did (I had a veryyyy easy pregnancy, so I was able to work until the end).
I'd say see how you're feeling, and work as long as you can w/o stressing yourself or making yourself uncomfortable. I will say, it was very difficult to see while driving (looking back to merge in particular) towards the end.

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
My fantasy birth plan involves me going into labor in my office on a late friday afternoon, because my office is closer to my hospital than my home is. Who knows what my reality will be, but as long as I can waddle over to the subway (maybe I'll break down and actually take the bus at the end) I'll be going to work.
I just want to spend every moment at home with my baby that I can. It kills me to even take one day off to go visit day care centers because that's one less paid day at home with her when she comes, but the places in my area all have wait lists so I have to get on one now to guarantee my baby a place in the spring.

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I'm in outside sales, so fortunately for me I will be working from home starting 2 weeks before my due date. If I have to go on appointments I will, but my territory is only a 5 miles radius, so it's fine.
So I will be working until I have the baby.

Hi Lisa!
Did you plan on that being your last day? I have two friends who wanted to work until the last minute and did b/c they were sent to the hospital to be induced at their doc's office on a Friday, during what was supposed to be the weekly visit.

This is probably a dumb question, but how far in advance did you know you would be induced? I guess that's my concern, is will there be any warning so I can tie up loose ends at work, or is it a total surprise?

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I plan on working until I physically can't. The hospital is equal distance from my house and my office so it will not take me any longer to get there from work. I also work with my sister so I know that she will get me to the hospital if something happened at work. I don't want to waste any days off before the baby is born because I want to take all of my days to be with him.

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
My due date is Tuesday 1/22. I am hoping to make it until 1/18 which is the friday before. I have a really big fear though of my water breaking in the middle of class. ( I am a teacher) or on the LIRR (I teach in the city). I guess we'll see what happens.

That was the planned day to leave. I wanted a couple weeks to myself before the baby was born, but that never happened

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I'm due Feb 19th, which is the day after President's Day (Tues). I plan to start my maternity leave that day (unless I deliver earlier, obviously) but my last day of work will actually be four days earlier, on Friday, February 15th since I have off for the weekend and Monday for the holiday.
So, either 4 days before my due date will be my last day of work OR my water will break here early
ETA: I work in Manhattan, take the LIRR.

My best friend found out at her 39 week appointment that she was going to be induced four hours later. But I also know of people who have an induction date 3 weeks early. I think it just depends on your situation and why you're being induced.

Re: If you plan on working til the very last minute...
I plan on working until the very last minute. I am fortunate in that I work only 2 miles from my home. Plus my job is literally five minutes or less to the hospital. So if I go into labor at work, it won't be a long drive. I just plan on keeping a bag packed in the car.
