If you put your home on the market, did you advise your realtor on how you'd like your home's description to read?
My home has many attractive features yet my realtor hasn't really touched on them. We do have pictures up but I am pretty annoyed that my home's description is pretty basic. Has anyone written up their own & asked their realtor to add it to your listing?

I asked realtor to make sure the listing mentioned certain features like cul de sac, cherry wood floors, crown moulding throughout, Etc. He added it to listing.

I would ask to add things- we have a limited amount of space- so I always put the best features
I just saw a new 1.3M listing with NO description- I don't understand most agents on long island- they do the minium - it blows my mind

I agree that you should speak with your real estate agent.
I am a perfectionist when it comes to my photos and verbiage of the house description. But it is key for marketing, and I always welcome the feedback of my sellers.
As others said, we have limited room for description (they only allow so many characters), but if you feel like the description doesn't highlight the best features, then I would let your agent know so he/she can revise it to your satisfaction (and to showcase what will be most attractive to the most buyers).
Good luck!

we told our REA everything we wanted to highlight...and actually changed things they suggested since it wasnt as great of a feature. (e.g., they wrote new countertops which wasnt true...but we added large foyer (which is big enough to have an office) as a selling point)

Yes, you can definitely do this if you are a better writer and can describe your home's best features better.
My RE took my suggestion and had a prof. photographer come in to take great photos. Both description and photos helped a great deal in getting buyers interested in seeing the home. I had an offer in less than a month. :D

Just wanted to add, for people who are currently interviewing real estate agents or will hire a listing agent in the future ---
You can (and probably should) ask to see some past listings of houses that your agent has listed or has sold in the past. I am always happy to provide this information to potential sellers with whom I consult.
This will give you an idea of how the agent generally approaches marketing the home -- Do they have a well-written, comprehensive description, or just a few bland words? Do they include a lot of pictures that highlight the selling features of the home, or are there pictures of a toilet bowl (seat up!)! [Toilet bowl pics are my pet peeve! No one is buying the house because the "throne" looks fab! ]
Even with a brand new agent, they can perhaps show you other listings within their office, to see the overall quality of the office's work, and discuss what they PLAN to do for yours. At least you can rest assured you are on the same page.
Some agents are meticulous about their listings and take a lot of pride, some just phone it in (it's like any other job/profession out there... there's good and bad!)

I agree. Some listings appear so lazy, it blows my mind. Actually TRY to sell the house, don't expect it to sell itself.
