If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
would you tell the boss or mind your own business?

Re: If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
It would probably depend what the situation was.
Since I'm a social worker, if I found out about something that a staff was doing that could put a client's life in danger, I'd be oligated to report.
Other stuff.........it's generally been my experience that the boss usually knows what's going on.
Especially if the team has already caught wind of it ;).

It depends on whether they are hurting others along the way.

If it was something illegal I would.
Otherwise I would mind my own business.

I think if no one is getting hurt and nothing illegal is happening -- it's not going to do you any good being a tattletale..

It also depends on what "cheating" is. Something illegal in the workplace, absolutely.
I'm in HR so I'm obligated to notify my employer in certain circumstances.

I don't really know what you mean by "cheating," but I work for my dad, and I'm extremely protective of him, so yes, I almost definitely would say something. (For this reason, I'm pretty sure no one would be forthcoming with me about something they were doing that he would disapprove of.)

This answer has to be yes for me. I'm a nurse, and if you're not following the rules, then you're doing something to put patient safety at risk, and quite possibly your own safety. I go to my nurse manager about things all the time.

To get ahead and further their own career? No, I wouldnt. Eventually I would it would bite them in the butt.
Hurting the company? Yes. Years ago a few co workers and I found out a co worker was stealing from the register where we worked. We wrote a letter to our boss to let him know.

Re: If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
Ummm depends on who it's affecting.
If it somehow affected me... then yes. if it affected a student... yes. if it affected the department on the whole... then yes because that is a reflection of us all.
otherwise i don't care what you are doing. i care more to focus on myself and my own actions.

Re: If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
Yes...and I did.
Just a few weeks ago, my third-graders took their end-of-grade tests (I'm a teacher in NC). The way the test is administered, the only thing we are allowed to say is what is specifically written in the administrator's manual. We are not allowed to help the kids in ANY WAY.
One of my students was pulled out of my room on test day and put into a colleague's room. No idea why, but whatever. This student (who is a very bad liar) told me that every time he had an answer right, the teacher would give him a candy corn. Yes, on standardized test day.
I went straight to my boss. Whether it was true or not, it was something that needed to be investigated.
At the end of the day, she involved ME because this involved MY student. If it would have been found that she did something wrong, and I knew about it and chose not to say anything, my a** could have been on the line, too.
Sorry, but I'm a big believer in covering my own a** when it comes to my job. I did the right thing. The right thing isn't always what's popular, but I KNEW that what I did was the right thing.

Re: If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
It depends. If it were someone that I could be held accountable for, then yes. Otherwise, it would depend who it was affecting/if it were against company policy/illegal/etc. I think "cheating" can be defined in a variety of ways.

Re: If you saw someone cheating at work to try and get ahead..........
really depends what it is, but in general i think i'd try to find a way to let the boss know about it whether it was at that time or bringing it up at a later time.
Having managed departments before, i know that i would want to know if others knew something like that about one of the people i was supervising.
