If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
Tyler has really been breaking out of the MB and I think it's time to just bite the bullet and put him in pjs and a sleepsack. He is 3.5 months. Do you think he's still too young? I was hoping to push him till 4 months (when he will hopefully jerk less in his sleep)

We made it to 6 months, then did a week w/ 1 arm out, then 2 arms out, and gradually worked our way to completely out. DS doesnt like the sleepsacks though, so he just sleeps in fleece PJs with a knit blanket over him. Which he usually kicks off.
From what I've read on here, we lasted much longer than most making it to 6 months swaddled. He got out consistently from 3 months on, but it helped him get to sleep.

Oh god we're going through that too! She's starting to wiggle her arms up...but she still really likes the swaddle. It calms her so much. She just seems too restless when she's out of it still and she sleeps so well in it!!
I'm too nervous to try it without!!

As soon as they all started turning over. 5 months for all 3 babies of mine. My oldest had the hardest time transitioning (ok maybe not that hard, 3 nights). I think she would allow herself to be swaddled at 2 years old if I let her.

DS is 10 wks and he busted free last night. I dont wnat to stop w/ the swaddle until AFTER i transfer him to the crib. I think its gonna be tough once we stop swaddling. He loves being in enclosed spaces.

Re: If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
We struggled with this quite a bit and finally just took the plunge and put him in a dreamsie (sleep sack with arms). He still startled a bit in the beginning but at least he stopped waking up bc he was struggling and breaking out of the swaddle. I'd say after 2-3 nights he was fine.
We did it on his 3-month bday and it coincided with him sleeping in his crib for the 1st time.
Crazy thing is, he still likes to be swaddled for his AM nap. He just started "refusing" the swaddle for the afternoon nap this week (he thinks he's a big boy
ETA: We tried doing just one arm out or both arms out but it didn't work. What he hated were his legs being constricted. It was hard for us, I wanted to swaddle him way longer, but, it was needed to be done even if mommy and daddy weren't ready.

Re: If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
We are still swaddling DS with the Swaddle Me at almost 5 m/o. I am afraid to stop b/c he still startles so much. When he naps at home I use the mircle blanket b/c without it he seems like he'll sleep for maybe 10 mins. At daycare the lady usually only can get him to nap in the swing, not the crib b/c she won't use the Miracle Blanket (afriad she'd get in trouble w/ inspectors )
So, I don't know when we'll stop. Sometimes he does wiggle his hands free - and then he wakes up and we have to fix it but most nights he stays snug. We think when we started to use it was when he started to STTN and we are so afraid of ruining it for ourselves.

Re: If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
i dreaded the day when i would have to stop even though my DS is a calm baby....i kept putting it off etc... but totally out of the blue when he was nearly 3.5 months he started really breaking free of it....then when i would re-swaddle, he would literally grunt and push his way out! it was like he was telling me- NO MORE! so in the middle of the night i bit the bullet and put a sleepsack on him and hoped for the best! to my shock he slept til morning and never used the MB again! DD was different-we stopped after 4 months i think and had to slowly wean her.

Re: If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
We stopped last week, just before she turned 5 months. We did one arm out Thursday, both arms out Friday (but she was still wrapped from her chest down, and just pjs and a sleep sack on Saturday. No problems, and I think she's sleeping BETTER than she was, since she's not constantly trying to escape!
BTW, we did it at the same time as CIO, and she is now sleeping 12 hours at a clip, unswaddled.

Re: If you swaddled your DC - what age did you stop swaddling?
I'm going to guess 4-5 months. I started weaning him off of it, but then started using it again when he got such a bad case of eczema that he was scratching his face up.
Luckily for us, though, it was April and the weather was getting warmer, so I could put him in heavy pjs and not have to use a sleep sack or anything. When the weather got cold again, he was almost a year and started using a blanket.

We stopped swaddling Jacob at 4 months because he was breaking out of it and sleeping fine without it. We are still swaddling Faith and she is 3.5 months. She breaks out from time to time but still sleeps better being swaddled.
