If you use Merry Maids/ cleaners etc...
Do you tip them? Merry Maids are coming tomorrow to do the first "big" cleaning, and I was wondering about this. I don't know if it matters, but we aren't paying for them- it was a shower gift from DH's mom and sister.

I tipped when we used them. I figured since it's a company, the $$ isn't going directly to them. If it was an individual cleaning lady, I'd probably pay her fee & that's it, unless it was really exceptional.

I used them once and I don't think I tipped them...For some reason I thought the woman who I was dealing with was the owner...

I used them and left $20 on the kitchen table. (we usually had 2 girls, so $10 for each of them)

depends on the people you get. IMO, they're way overpriced. The last time we hired them, we had 2 girls for 2 hours and it cost us $300. It's not as expensive if you use them regularly, but if you go longer than 6 months without using them, price jumps.

Re: If you use Merry Maids/ cleaners etc...
Was this the company profiled in "Nickel and Dimed"? I think it may have been, though I'm not positive. They didn't sound too good--they didn't believe in using much in the way of cleaning products, even to clean the floor. Staff were not treated well either, but that's another story.
Anyway, I would tip someone. I'm not sure if it's expected or not, but I think it's worth it for something like this.

I read Nickel and Dimed too- I meant to go back and see if that was the company and forgot! Thanks for reminding me.
Anyway, they were here Weds. for five and a half hours. I don't know if that speaks to how hard they worked or how gross my house was. Actually, they did an awesome job and my house looks great. I tipped them each $20 because they were there for so long, and SIL and MIL were footing the bill anyway. And now when my baby does come home, the house will be nice and clean.
