If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
which one did you prefer, and why?
I only used RTF with my first son, so just wanted to get opinions. Thanks!

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
I used RTF for the first few months b/c alot less gass issues.. was told to only use RTF at first. Then when she got about 7-8 months we switched to Powder.. it was cheaper and lasted longer. No problem with either so i was fine with both, just $$ i was happier with powder.
eta: edit months.. she was EBF for 4months, supplemented RTF 4-6, RTF only 6-7 and then 7-8 went to powder until 12 months.

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
I used RTF from the start and tried switching to the powder when he was a few months old....he was a lot hungrier and people told me the RTF is thick, I haveno idea if there is any truth to this but we switched back t othe RTF and have used it ever since. I honestly find it so simple and really prefer it but I guess I could have saved money using the powder. We do use the powder travel packets (sort of like crystal light packets) when we are out etc....

I did love the convenience of RTF, but DS is drinking almost 40 oz a day now! So it's muy $$$$!
I make the powder forumla by the pitcher the night before. So all the bubbles have settled and the consistency is basically the same as the RTF. He loves it just as much.

The reason I am thinking of doing powder is so we don't have to wait for the bottle to warm....

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
We've pretty much always used the powder because it was easier when we were out and about and it was cheaper.
We've used the RTF just a a few times when we were at parties and family's houses and such for a whole day.

ds was breastfed for the first 4 months, then started supplementing with formula, then was formula-fed exclusively from about 6 months on.
i would get your child used to switching between the two as early as possible if you're going to use both.
we used powder exclusively (cheaper, more convenient in my opinion). but at one point we discovered a stash of rtf that we had gotten in the mail for free. by that time he wouldn't take it and we had to give it away

We used both - first the RTF, then the powder and then switched on and off. The powder is much more convenient and cheaper and we had no problems with either. Some days we used both - it depended on what was on sale, etc.

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
DD was BF for the first 3-4 months and then we used RTF cans/bottles. They were so much easier to use, but where $$$$. Once we found out she needed to be on Alimentum we switched to power around 6-7 months and haven't had a problem.
I loved the RTF but the price turned me away. I thought the powder was going to be such a PITA but it was just as easy and your saving money!

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
I'm a dummy and decided that I was going to use powdered formula when DS was born, my house was a disastrous construction site, had no kitchen, my dining room held the contents of my kitchen, what was I thinking?!?!?!?!?!
Then DS had terrible gas and spitup issues so I went to RTF.......like someone flipped the switch!!!!! Never goin back to powder!

I only used the RTF when I had my first son. This time I'm using the powder and it's so simple. I make it the night before in the pitcher and I just heat it up before I feed it to him. It's much cheaper and lasts a lot longer.

Re: If you used both RTF and powdered formula...
Good question! I have been using powder, but now with all the gas issues I bought some RTF to try out. I do like how easy it is, but my DS easts so much it's going to get $$ fast. Although yesterday Target had them on sale 2 for $11 and I was able to use 2 $5 coupons so I got 2 bottles for $1

I used RTF bc I thought it was easier. I guess its expensive but a $38 case lasted about a week. Not bad IMO. I only used powder when we were going to be out.
