Re: If you used the same crib for DC #1 and DC #2 - did you buy a new mattress?
Yes, I bought a new mattress. I knew that DD#1 had leaked/spit up on the first one over 3 years. The crib mattress wasn't very expensive so I got a fresh one for the new baby.

Re: If you used the same crib for DC #1 and DC #2 - did you buy a new mattress?
Nope...my son was only in his crib for about 18 months before he started climbing out and went into a bed. I'm having #3 very soon and still have the original mattress I bought.
If you keep the proper coverings on it like waterproof pads, then it will be in great condition for a long time.

Re: If you used the same crib for DC #1 and DC #2 - did you buy a new mattress?
I am. My pediatrician told me that used mattresses break down over time and lose their "firmness" which is a SIDS risk. I don't doubt it considering the amount of jumping my girls do in their beds.
I have 2 cribs, so I had 2 mattresses. We'll move my eldest to a twin, my second will have her convertable, and we'll get a new mattress for DS and use DD#1's convertable crib.
