If you wake up every morning thinking...
that you really really really really don't want to go to work....
does it mean that it's time for you to find a new job, or even a new career?
Is it just that I'd rather be home with my daughter?
And that I hate my commute?
Or that I hate waking up at 5:15 and just want to sleep a little bit longer, till 6 or something.
I mean, does everyone wake up not wanting to go to work all the time? Or is it just me?

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
Well.......it could be any of those things 5:15 AM is an insane hour to get up IF you don't like your job!! But if you do like it AND are home early in the day, it's all worth it
I have extremely varying hours which is so aggrevating (I worked 12 hours with no advance notice yesterday ), but I LOVE what I do & it is part of my work to have unexpected things happen , so I deal.
Though if I had a baby that cute at home, I might want to stay home longer too

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
you're not the only one! but I would say that if you wake up and literally have to PRY yourself out of bed, it might be time to look for another job. I've been there too... I've had jobs where I would rather sell my soul than get out of bed that's when I got out of that job.

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
Even at the job I used to love, my former firm, there were days I woke up and didn't want to go. Who wouldn't want to sleep in? But when it becomes more days as opposed to less, I do find that it may be time to leave because I'm getting bored. Boredom is the worst curse for me at my job...

My life definitely got better when I got a job closer to home and didn't have to commute 2 hours each way. But even now, I like my job, but I am just physically exhausted, and you probably are too. It doesn't matter what job I might have, I just have too much going on and not enough time, so each morning I wake up just dreaming of when I will be able to sleep again.

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
I think that is could be any of those things. It could even be all 3 combined. I think it more has to do with how busy your are and how tired you are, than not being happy. Maybe you can try to find a job closer to home like a previous poster suggested so you can sleep a little longer.
I am so sorry you feel this way though!!!!!!!!!

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
It sounds like it could be all of the above, but, as others are saying, if it's coming to the point that you completely dread work every single day, it may be time to start looking...

Honestly, I have been feeling like that latley. And I have been wondering the same thing. I don't know if it's because of the weather or what - but I have just HATED coming to work everyday.
I don't really have an answer for you since I am going through the same thing.

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
My husband says it every morning, but that's b/c he's bored in his job - they never give him enough work to do.
The other part if b/c he's still tired and wants to sleep for 1 more hour.

That totally sounds like me. I wake up at 5:15 every morning too and lay in bed as long as possible. If I didn't have to work, I'd stay home in a second.

I wake up like that most mornings... but I knew the morning I woke up thinking I didn't want to go work and then I started crying about how I didn't want to go to work that it was time to change jobs!

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
I went through that when I worked at a place that I was really unhappy with. It could just be that you'd rather be home with your little one, not that it means you should find a new job. Are you unhappy at work?

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
it sounds like a combination of everything to me... its gotta be hard enough leaving your baby, let alone when you have to get up at 5:15 and drive so far to do it! maybe you should try looking for something closer to home, and see if it gets any better.... good luck!!!

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
I don't know, but I have had jobs I loved and don't ever remember waking up excited to go to work.
Once you get to work, are you OK with being there, or does the feeling last, even once you are there?

Like you, I get up at 5am and have to get to school early (high school) with at least a 45 minute commute.
I agree, leaving the house and getting to work before the sun rises, combined with a long commute and cold weather, is enough to wear on you.
One of my recently retired co-workers said it was that early hour that made it more and more difficult as the years went on and he only lived about 15 minutes away from school.
It can't hurt to look for something closer to home

My theory is that if every day when you wake up and you are miserable, or dragging, or dreading the day ahead, it really is time for a change. Life is too short!

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
THank you everyone for your replies. I thought about this a lot today on my commute, and talked about it to a good friend at work.
I don't think it's that I hate my job. Sure, there are days where I just want to throw my hands up in the air, scream and just walk out of there. But then there are days like today, days that we've been having more and more often lately in my class, when I feel like there is so much love going on in my classroom, the kids are teaching eachother kindly, they are loving the work that we go together, and it's all OK.
I think a lot of it is that it's been a long winter.....a long time of waking up and driving an hour and a half in the AM and getting to work before it's even fully light out. Plus, by the time I get home it's after 6pm, I still have to make dinner and I get such little time wiht my daughter. I think I'm still thinking about how great it was last week when I was home with her, and so in the AMs I'm just thinking how I'd rather have the day with her.
But I also know that I wouldn't have summers off or 3 week-long vacations during the year if I did anything else. And I don't think my job would be nearly as rewarding as it is.
I am certainly NOT bored at my job. I am challenged EVERY day, and sometimes I wonder how I manage it all. Teaching in NYC is a demanding, hectic place right now, I'm sure there are plenty on the board who can vouch for that. Part of it is a lack of boredom---more of.....an abundance of too much to do and too little time to do it all!
Ultimately I want to get a teaching job on LI but I have a year left of my Master's program to go. After I graduate, I'm hoping to get a job on LI.
Thanks everyone for all of your words...

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
i used to wake up like this (at around 7am) and for me it was a clear sign to find a new job. i took a big leap and even switched careers! now i wake up every morning at around 9am and i absolutely love my job! i can work from home, and its given me the opportunity to even start another side business!
dont be scared to try something new...it may just be the best thing that ever happened to you!

Re: If you wake up every morning thinking...
I think maybe its time to find a new job, not necessarily a new career. My DH was working at the same place for 7 years and last month he left and is now a partner in a company he started with someone. He gets up at 4:30am and is out the door by 5:15 drives about an hour and half in the moring to Jersey everyday and then his commute home is anywhere from 1.5-2 hours every night. He loves his job because it's new and exciting. He is still doing the same thing just a different industry. Maybe you need to switch schools for districts or maybe even grades? I feel that sometimes when you dont really enjoy what you are doing you might not give as much as if you did.
