would you still put up the christmas tree? We will likely be going to my inlaws in Florida for the holidays for two weeks. My kids are 10 and 14, not little anymore. My 10 year old pretends to believe in Santa, pretty sure its just an act.

It just seems silly to me to put it up before we leave and take it down when we get home.

Re: If you were going away for the holidays...

I'm going away for Christmas and don't plan on putting up my tree. I'll have a few decorations out but not everything.

I would. I wouldn't want my kids to look back and say remember that Christmas we didn't put a tree. I love decorating and my kids really love it. Having the tree up makes it feel like Christmas to me.

Yep, ITA.

I lived in FL for a couple of years and DH and I would come home to NY for two weeks at Xmas but we still ALWAYS decorated and put up our tree. Chat Icon

I would! I love Christmas decorations! I'd probably put them up more for my benefit than the kids. Lol

Yes, especially since DH and I usually put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving!

Re: If you were going away for the holidays...

Nope! I go away for Christmas every couple of years...its just one more chore to take care of when I'm back!

ETA - but we get a real tree so it just wouldn't make sense to have the damn thing dry out and die while we're away. I guess if we had a fake tree then we would be able to enjoy it from Thanksgiving on...hmm...

Re: If you were going away for the holidays...

I don't have a fake tree but I love Christmas and christmas trees so much that I would probably go out and buy once just to put it up while I was away Chat Icon

It is just SUCH a tedious pain in the asss getting it up and decorated and then taking it all down a month later.

So I say- if you are going away- Hellz to the no!

Yes. We put up ours the weekend of Thanksgiving. Wouldn't feel right not putting it up.

If you could go either way on the subject, I'd ask the kids. If it won't seem like Christmas to them, I'd put it up.

I am assuming you are talking about an artificial tree? I wouldn't leave a real one up if I wasn't home.

Yes, artificial. Though, the thought did cross my mind to get a small real tree and put that up instead. Like a 2-footer in a pot. Why would you not leave that up? Fire Hazard? Even if it were not plugged in?

Like NervousNell, I like the tree but really hate putting it up. Somehow, we start as a family and everyone ends up running off to do this or that, and I am left to tackle the rest by myself. Once its up, I love it.

Word for word. I hate it. I mean I love the way it looks when it's all done but we don't take it down until nearly February because we dread it.

I do not do holiday decorations lol.

Yep. And then the house starts looking cluttered IMO.
I feel like when we take it all down, the house looks so clean and open and bigger and neat and clutter free!

I would put it up, but I am a BIG fan of Christmas. I couldn't imagine not having a Christmas tree up.

I would. We used to go away every Christmas to visit family. We would either leave Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to fly to them. It doesn't feel like the Christmas season to me without a tree. We have a fake tree though, so no real tree to worry about watering, etc.

Well, I don't think it would spontaneously combust, but areal tree needs to be watered. If not, you will come home to a crunchy tree with needles everywhere. I am not sure about the kind in dirt though.

We go away every other year to spend the holidays with my family and I always put up a tree.

To me, the point of the tree is to enjoy it all season long, not just on Christmas Day.

You can always put a smaller version of the xmas tree. I feel like if you don't put any decorations up then it doesnt feel like Xmas. IMO

We have traveled every Christmas since we have been married (6 years) and we still always put up a tree (and we have no kids...yet).

I probably wouldn't. There's nothing more annoying to me than taking down the tree and putting away all the ornaments. I find it so depressing and definitely wouldn't want to do it after coming home from a vacation after Xmas is over!
