If you were home sick with Mono. . .
What kind of gift would you appreciate from a friend in another state?
Flowers? Edible arrangement? Regular fruit basket? Assortment of nut, carrot, banana bread, etc. Something else?
Chicken soup was my first option, but the shipping is really expensive. I'm worried about sending food that she can't eat (still a little queasy) , that will go bad. (like fruit)
Thanks!

Hmmm. . .she has entire seasons of tv shows she was going to watch. And I'm not so sure about junk food. Maybe I'll just get some books & magazines at Borders & send them myself.

Re: If you were home sick with Mono. . .
Honestly when I was home sick w/ mono I slept ALL day and most of the time all night too--- except in the beginning and the end stages... I didn't want to eat... and I didn't really watch tv. I received flowers and barely saw them b/c all I did was sleep but getting them was really nice. So I would say either the bread b/c she could freeze them until she's feeling better or DVDs (or if she has a DH or someone caring for her a gift card to borders or someplace to pick her up some magazines or books- or DVDs of her choosing) HTH! And hope she feels better- I never got mono in HS or college- I got it a couple of years after we were married- my 1 year old nephew somehow passed it on to me and he only ended up w/ a cold b/c kids don't get it like adults do I've NEVER felt so terrible for so long in my lfe. It really stinks getting sick like that.

I think I'd like a really nice note / card instead. If you were sending something extra, too, I'd probably appreciate flowers. I'm sure she's exhausted and probably doesn't have a huge appetite...

Pajamas. When I had mono in high school I pretty much slept all day long.

Brookstone sells the NAP line. SOOOO comfy. Blankets, socks, pillows and even cute little cuddle teddy bears in the same comfy fabric. Maybe you could pick up a few of those items and ship them to her.

I think books and magazines.
You're a good friend!
Aww, thanks, Beth! I think that's what I'm leaning towards.
A friend of mine once sent me a bridal magazine all annoted with silly comments, & it was one of my favorite gifts. So, I might do the same with some other kind fo magazine for her.
I know most people say they didn't have an appetite when they had it it, but she has been telling me in details about how she really wants a cheeseburger, so food might work, but she thinks her appetite is getting ahead of its self.
The pajama idea is cute too.
I think she doesn't know how to be sick with mono. She's not sleeping all day, like everyone else. She has no energy, but she can't sleep. She's online a lot, and then she says she stares at the celing.
Thanks for all your help everyone!

Re: If you were home sick with Mono. . .
Thinking about when I had mono, NO FOOD! If she is anything like me I could not even swallow. What about something for when she is better. I needed some major beauty time afterwards like mani/pedi, eyebrows, hair. Speaking for myself, after 2 weeks with mono, I was a mess!
Also, magazines was a good idea, for when you are actually awake
