No way. I would do it on occasion when they needed help but not an every day type of situation.
Same here. I also think my house would look like a bomb hit it constantly with 4 kids running around all day.
I might offer if I knew it was temporary - a couple of weeks, maybe. Not a permanent thing and not supervising 4 kids under the age of 5.

I think that something has to give with that.
I mean, it pretty much restricts your DH to the house (four kids in car/booster seats?!?) five days a week from 9-5
Either they should compensate him in some way or he should do it part time.
for some reason he is not thinking it would be an issue- and yes he has to leave the house to drive my oldest to preschool.

Do you have a car that would work with that even? Which kid gets strapped to the roof?
(sorry I have a warped sense of humor )

Re: If you were laid off would you watch your sister/brothers 2 kids for free? esp if you have 2 kids of your own?
I couldn't ever take money from my Sister (or SIL if she had kids). I wouldn't even think twice if she asked me to watch him. But that's just me.
I will say if it were vise versa & my sister was watching my kids, I would offer to pay, she wouldn't take it but we'd make sure to provide her with things her family would need since she is helping us out while not working KWIM?

I say let your DH do it. Once he realize how much work it is, I am sure he will not do it permanently.
Exactly. Although I have to say, I know my husband would offer and he would totally handle it like a pro, so who knows, maybe it's what he really wants to do?

No way. I have said it a million times before, I paid my sister to be a nanny to my DD--contract and everything. It was a Godsend for us and a completely draining job for her. One is hard! Imagine 4???

First, my DH can barely handle 1, can't imagine 4! I personally think that is a lot to ask of him. What if he has to leave the house? He can't leave with them all can he??? I would expect some sort of compensation...but that's just me.
I agree!

I guess its just us (and like 2 others) , Dev. Im lucky to have you as a sister!
And no, I would NEVER take money for you to watch Joey, ever. It would be a lot of work, but it would be my pleasure.

If I got laid off, I'd be busting my tush to get another job - and on my off days from interviewing, yes I'd watch all of the kids. I would make it known that it's not a permanent solution & they'll need to pay back the favor when I'm interviewing.

i'm not sure i'd say yes even if they offered to pay me! that's too much for one person to handle, in my opinion.

no way. i'm all for helping family but let's be realistic... thats a HUGE favor to do that everyday for two kids in addition to your two. i'd do it a a discounted rate so they benefit by not hiring someone else, but i would still want some compensation. AND if that was me, i would WANT to give my sister or brother something for their time & effort.

Hell no. No way. Honestly I would make my DH take back his offer b/c my own children would suffer with less attention, which is his priority. I would not allow it, pay or not (unless we badly needed the cash).

Yes, definitely. You ever hear that expression "It takes a village"? My family subscribes to that philosophy....We help each other out however we can.
Bless your DH!!! What a kind hearted man
ita
i'd be more worried about the kid to adult ratio - esp with the younger ones. that's a LOT of work.
as for the "it could end up costing you money" with food and outings, i would just have the kids come with lunch/snacks and bring money for whatever outing they were going on, but honestly with that many kids, i don't see a lot of outings happening... heh! kudos to your dh if they do!

Re: If you were laid off would you watch your sister/brothers 2 kids for free? esp if you have 2 kids of your own?
I don't know many that could do that. IMHO those ages are NOT appropriate for just 1 person, and to ask is rude. Yes he may be unemployed but he should not be used as a daycare. I don't care if it's family or not. They are taking advantage of him IMHO
Edited to add...i'm all for the it takes a village thought and I'm thankful my family is watching Emmy for us when we work, but m-f 9-5 is A LOT to ask. I also agree once he does it he may reconsider doing it on a full time basis. I think if they were older it would work better, but like I said those ages are not good. I thik it will most def. take away from the kids. How acan you entertain 2-4yo's, a 3month old and a 9month old all at the same time and do it fairly? They are all at VERY different stages in development.

He actually really wants to help that is why he is doing it. He is super close with his brother and he feels funny taking money from them. im upset because I dont think he is being realistic.- he is using the argument of " people out there have 4 kids and manage just fine" and " why cant I do something nice for my family with out getting anything in return"

Your husband is awesome and if he can do it, great for him! My thing is though that your BIL should at least offer to give him something KWIM? Like $$ for food or if wants to take the kids out or something. What about your SIL? Doesn't she feel guilty at all? I know I would.

I know, see thats my other thing, how can she leave the kids knowing that her brother in law is busting his hump all day caring for her kids- while all along she brings home her full paycheck each week. If it were me i would be insisting on him taking the money- so much that I would leave it on the table or direct deposit it into his paypal account. He is is saving them rougly 500 per week.
