The cost will depend on what kind of things you want to buy.

You could definitely do a nice cute nursery and not spend a ton of money -- ikea has cribs and you can get an ikea dresser that will double as the changing table.

You can also save money by buying a few cute crib sheets and pretty crib skirt instead of a bedding set (you will not use most of what comes in those sets anyway). Or you could find a set that includes extras that you would use - window valance, etc.

Or you could spend Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon on fancy furniture, chairs, window treatments, curtains, etc. And believe me, no judgment here, this is what we did -- DD's nursery is nicer than our whole house. I always laugh because we have Ikea furniture pretty much everywhere else, but her room has super fancy furniture with self closing drawers and cordless blackout blinds.

DD's furniture is Natart, we have a reclining chair with a pop out ottoman, PB sheets, crib skirt, and curtains, including sheers, and the blackout blinds.

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

Yep, I think it completely depends on your style.

DD1
Dresser (changing table)
Armior
Free standing Cheval mirror
Lamp
BLACKOUT curtains from restoration hardware.
of course 4 years ago pink & brown was not common, like it is now....so I ONLY found my bedding with resoration hardware.

DD2
Dresser (changing table)
Bookcase
Nightstand
Best Chair Glidder & ottoman ($$ I didn't have with DD1, but after BFing 1 year with her, I "earned" if for #2 Chat Icon )
I AGAIN had to spend more on bedding because I had a certain look I wanted.
Plantation Shutters, because the sun rises directly into her window
(photos are in my Summer Isabella album)

If you are on a budget, decide what you need, your child can grow with, look at quality. I don't recommend the expensive bedding sets. Buy just sheets & accessorize the rest of the room

I can't remember exactly but roughly:

Convertible crib, tall dresser, low dresser/changer, crib conversion kit: $2000 (we got a less expensive set than for DS#1, his crib alone was around $1700 but we were in a 1 brdm apt at the time so that's all we got for him)

crib mattress: $200

bedding set, window valances, wall hangings, hamper: $300 (we didn't get a mobile as it was a waste for DS#1)

Hardwood floors so no carpeting or rug. There were already blinds on the windows, no drapery other than valance. And we didn't get the matching lampshade, no reason. Room already had a ceiling fan with light.

ETA: We used DS1's glider with ottoman, i think those were around $400.

Yeah, I know it depends on your style, budget, etc.

If 10 ppl answer and 7 spent $1500 - 2500, 2 spent $10K, and 1 spent $500 - then I'm thinking $2000 is realistic, KWIM?

It depends on your style. All of my nursery stuff was given to me as gifts both times. Ikea has some nice things.

I think both times my furniture was around $1200.
Mattress was $100-$200
Bedding sets were $300 the first time, and $150 the second time.

I would say around $2000 for everything.

Crib $30 yard sale and it's super cute lol

Changing Table Free it's super fancy with molding and drawers and my sisters boss was giving it away

Dresser $125 Bob's. Matches the changing table but it's cheaply made. Big regret, I wish we paid more for a better piece of furniture.

Wooden Curtain pull backs $5 PBK Outlet

PBK Sailboat Mobile $35 Shower gift

Vintage wooden huge oar hanging on wall Free we pulled it out of someones trash

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

Furniture was around $2,700
Paint $550
Everything else was not expensive. I have a boy and I don't like bedding or overly themed rooms! I just use a cute sheet and got a few pics for the walls. I need to get a toy box soon.
Cellular shades - got cheap cordless ones home depot
No hamper - i just use a cloth storage bin
No diaper genie
Rug - maybe $30
New closet doors - not sure but not a lot

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

Upholstered dutailier glider and ottoman $800
Bonavita Peyton Lifestyle convertible crib (430), the toddler rail (60) and the longer rails to make it a full size bed (180), night stand (300), dresser with change pad top (500). I purchased them from BBB so I was able to use the 20% off coupons on each of them making them cost less than listed - but those are the ARV.
Colgate reversible crib mattress $100
Changing table mattress $34
Bedding $150 (included valance, crib skirt, one fitted sheet, blanket) - I did not use the bumpers or the diaper stacker but they are included too.
Extra sheets $20
Changing pad covers $20
Art $60

If the store delivers or sets up everything you have to add those fees too.

Please note that I love coupons so the prices listed are before coupons. My parents and my in laws purchased the basic crib, the mattress, and the dresser for us when DS was born. I added some pieces when DD was born.

The amount the above totals without coupons is $2,654. My family and I spent about 2100 on everything because we used coupons.

Mattress 200
changing table 25 Craigslist, didn't really want to keep long, not doing furniture

We have a small house so I don't want large pieces of furniture...

My furniture was roughly $2K (chest of drawers, crib and changing table with hutch)

I could not find a bedding set I liked so I purchased a bedskirt, sheets and breathable bumper from Amazon. I believe it was like $80 for that.

Black out shades were $125ish
The nautical decor cost me about $150 shopping at Home Goods and Amazon.

Thanks everyone!

I think I'm gonna go with a $2000 budget. The windows are killing me. I want plantation shutters but now I'm thinking I should nix them to keep costs down.

Thanks!

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

Is say a good estimate for us was $2k for everything, and we were conscious of our budget. Got the 3 piece furniture set from jc Penney. Bedding from Target was only $100. The only thing we didn't buy, as it was in the room already was the rug, blinds and crown moulding. The glider was a gift for our shower.

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

We definitely could have done it for less but I really liked the quality of the set we bought. Here is the breakdown:

Romina convertible crib: $1,000
Conversion kit (toddler bed and full bed): $400
Mattress: $200
3-drawer dresser: $1,000
Bookcase: $900
Slipcover for armchair: $500
Bedding: $250 on sale (included matching window valances, laundry hamper and storage bins).
Lampshade cover (to match armchair) $80 Chat Icon

We also got our entire upstairs recarpted and the total cost was $1,500 and did some construction on the nursery (new closet, new sheetrock, all new moldings, extra electrical outlets) and that set us back about $1,000.

$400 For my Davinci "Emily" set. Crib, dresser and 3 drawer changing table.

$100 for my bedding BRU - On Sale

$40 on Behr Paint

$100 on Ikea Area Rugs

$100 - Upholstered Chair (I upholstered a chair I had to match the babys bedding)

$200 misc items - decals, shelves, etc

Total $940 and I think I am pushing for more than what I spent.

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

I only bought cribs as I had a closet organizer. I purchased $200 cribs from JC Penney.

We bought a dresser set on CL for $50 and painted it

Bedding was a gift

I framed an old necklace of my DH's Grandmother and some other cheapy artwork(check out Graphics Fairy and sprik space-both have free printables)

I think you can do a gorgeous room on the cheap. It depends what your priorities are

This was their original room-not totally finished but you get the idea.:

I think $2000 is very reasonable. I don't think you should nix the shutters, those you will have for a long time. I would go cheap with the bedding because half of it you don't/can't use.

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

agree with bluestar. depends on what you want to spend.

dresser (had from ikea about $100)
crib (ikea $110)
mattress (ikea $80)
bedding set ( baby shower gift from my mom $120)
changing pad and cover (ikea, $6, $8)
armchair (taken form mom's house so free) it's just a regular armchair, nothing special.
tall dresser (ikea $120)
wall art (free, drawn by a friend, painted by dh and myself. spend maybe $15 on paints)
wall paint (home depot behr's $20)
humidifier ($80 babies r us)

we got a lot of the basics form our registry as gifts so didn't have to pay a lot out of pocket. the things we did need we didn't go crazy with.
i know many people hate ikea furniture, but it's all i've ever had. i come from a line of women who like to redecorate every few years, so it wouldn't make sense to spend more. you're only using a crib for a short amount of time, so i couldn't justify spending more than $100 on it. ds's crib was converted into a bed by the time he was 12 months.

Re: If you'd care to share - soup to nuts - nursery cost?

I'm curious on what we've spent so far so here it is

Crib (young america): 750 plus 300 for the conversion kits we haven't bought yet
Mattress: 330
Crib skirt + sheet (no bumper - potterybarn): 130
Rug (land of nod):150
Curtain rods/tiebacks (pottery barn): around 120
curtains (land of nod): 80?
Glider (target): 430

Dresser we are repurposing a vintage one. We bought handles from restoration hardware and that came out to 115.

total 2405 so far but my mom bought the crib, mattress and bedding

We need to buy some more little things like humidifier, laundry basket, trash can etc.

The nursery was basically stripped to the bone so there was more money for closet doors, molding, etc that I don't have a figure for.
