If your baby was breech and never turned and you had to have a c-section question for you

Ok I need to stop reading things online but thought I would ask here..... If your baby was breech and you had a c-section because he/she never turned did your DC have any abnormalities after birth? I'm reading all this crazy stuff online and I'm freaked something could be wrong with my baby. I'm just about 36 weeks and my baby is still breech. My ob didn't mention anything to me about abnormalities but I will def be asking the risks at my next appointment on Thursday.

Has anyone heard of the abnormalities a child could have with being a breech baby?

Well I had twins, but DS was breech and he was baby A, the baby closest to my cervix. He is a perfectly healthy baby. I delivered by c-section at 37 weeks 5 days. He had been breech since about 30 weeks.

My DC was breech and delivered via C-section. I remeber reading all that stuff online too and freaking myself out. DC is 3months old and doing well. He has been reaching milestones within range. The only concern my pediatrician had in relation his being breech had to do with his hip development which turned out to be fine.

Re: If your baby was breech and never turned and you had to have a c-section question for you

i was a breech baby and yes, i have a physical problem that will never go away due to my being born breech. i have lived with it all my life and lived a normal life with only minor inconveniences and adaptations. most people never know i have something wrong until i tell them.

i'm not trying to scare you by any means, but yes, complications can arise. i was born 31 years ago before sonograms were commonplace--if i were born now they probably could have fixed the problem after birth. as of now Chat Icon is breech (as was DS before he turned) and i never once gave it a thought or worry to them having problems. it's not something i can control or worry about especially if my doctor never mentioned anything.

i think you should stop reading on the internet and ask your doctor his opinion. sometimes too much information isn't a good thing.Chat Icon

Re: If your baby was breech and never turned and you had to have a c-section question for you

Wow...until I read this thread I had no idea of complications!

DS was breech, tried to turn him, and he refused to go so I had a c-section. He is 4 1/2 months now and healthy. He is meeting all milestones on time and no one (ob/gyn or ped) has ever mentioned the possibility of complications. In fact, I figured it was safer having the c-section rather than trying to push him out and having him get stuck.

I'm sure everything will be fine!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS was breech and I delivered via c/s (even tried a version but he wasn't moving!). They made me go get him seen by a ortho specialist because I guess there can be hip problems?? He was perfectly fine though.

Both my children were breech. My daughter was in a very stubborn position. She had no health problems. They did make us take her for a hip sonogram at a couple weeks old to make sure her hips were fused properly but she was fine.

My son was in a Frank's Breech position. He has a very small minor effect from it. When he was born it was scary and I thought he had spina bifdad but it turns out he has a 'dimple' where the skin did not close as 'deep' as the others. Totally fine and no health issues from it. Doctor says he will have a 'sexy' dimple on top of his waist band for his bathing suit.

Try not to worry too much with sonograms you would probably know already if there was an issue.

Shaylie was breeched which I think was due to a huge fibroid I had in the back of my uterus. I had a c-section and when they got her out, the cord was wrapped around her waist 3 times, but she was perfectly fine. She's a happy and healthy baby today.

Ellie was breech, tried to turn her, and I had a c-section.

She's fine - we've checked her with the orthepedic surgeon which now is required. NO worries! And the scheduled c-section is a breeze too. At least I thought so!

Re: If your baby was breech and never turned and you had to have a c-section question for you

DS was breech almost the entire pregnancy. No joke almost every ultrasound I had there he was legs over his head. lol The only thing I have found out of the ordinary with DS is that at 5 months his legs are still very "open" I'm nto sure how to describe it. If he is standing up his legs are wide apart. I talked to my ped. and she said there's no issue for concern that since he was breech fo rso long and in such an awkward position (I think its called Frank breech) his legs are just just be be wide apart. She said with time he will get used to it. I'm still a little concerned since it seems like it has improved very little so I will bring it up again at my 6 month well visit. Other than that he is great! Rolled over very early (3 months) is growing fast and is healthy!

DD was breech and never turned. After she was born, she did need a couple puffs of oxygen. However, there were no abnormalities and she is now a perfectly healthy and "normal" 17 month old.

BOTH my children were transverse (sideways) and never turned (well they did turn head down, but turned back).

They came out fine, with 10 fingers and toes!

Re: If your baby was breech and never turned and you had to have a c-section question for you

my DD is 11 weeks and has been in a brace since she was 3 days old for hip dysplasia (1 in about 250 babies have this), she was a frank breech and I went in for a version but they said it wouldn't work. It has been challenging (especially since I'm EBF) but not impossible to deal with and the brace should be coming off soon. I had it at birth as well and was in a cast for almost my entire first year, so my genes played a factor. It is common in firstborn breech girls - not to worry anyone-my DD is beautiful and healthy and is adorable in her brace
