If your child brings lunch from home...

..do you make it in the morning or the night before? More specifically, if you make them a sandwich with cold cuts, when do you make it?

I make theirs in the AM and it would be so much easier to do it at night but I always think the bread will be unappetizing after being in the fridge all night. But maybe I am overthinking it.

I make their lunches at night and put it in their lunch bags and toss it into the fridge. The kids don't complain! I actually keep my bread in the fridge, so its always cold anyway. But by the time they eat lunch at school, the bread isn't cold anymore!

I don't make lunch for the kids yet but I do for my husband. Most of the time I make it in the morning but I have made sandwiches the night before... He says they taste the same.

That's exactly the reason I always make it in the AM as well. I toast the bread, make the sandwich and wrap it in aluminum foil so it stays nice and soft when he eats it for lunch. Chat Icon

I prefer to do it the night before, but sometimes I run out of time. Then I'm rushing around the last 10 minutes before the bus comes to throw something together Chat Icon

Re: If your child brings lunch from home...

So I made their lunches and they are in the fridge ready for the AM. Honestly, when I think about it, they probably wont even notice or care. It was seriously one of those DUH moments - I've been doing this for a few years and it just struck me to make it the night before. I hate doing it in the AM bc its just hectic and wont get easier in Sept when I make 3 lunches. And when DH is home, it is even more annoying to do in the AM of course bc he seems to not know how many snacks, where they're kept, etc. Chat Icon

I wantto do it at night but never remember. If I make pbj I just make sure to put PB on both sides so the jelly doesn't make the bread soggy. Or any condiments for that matter.

That morning usually. I don't like sandwiches that have sat or been in the fridge. Ick.

I always do it at night and the kids have never complained. And *believe me* they would not hesitate to complain about it if they were displeased with the bread or what have you.

I make it in the morning because I didn't want to put the bread in the fridge.

If it's a cold cut sandwich, I'm more willing to do it the night before. I would not put PB&J in the fridge overnight.

Re: If your child brings lunch from home...

No complaints so this might be the way to go. I balked bc as someone said upthread, a sandwich refrigerated overnight sounds unappealing to me but maybe that's just my issue. And maybe I've unwittingly eaten lots of overnighted sandwiches in my life and thought they were delicious. That was so much easier that the AM.
