If your child didnt qualify for speech services
Basically, I was told its a numbers game.. But can you fight, or advocate for services for your child if they dont qualify based on the scores of the tests?
I was just curious if anyone has done this before.

Re: If your child didnt qualify for speech services
My sister opted to pay for a speech therapist & go through her insurance company instead.

Ok that's just sad
So they are saying they have to limit the number of children who NEED the service? Wow!
Yeah I guess I'd go through Insurance instead but that's just sad!

Re: If your child didnt qualify for speech services
My friend's son's evaluator said he should qualify for EI but then when it came to paying for it, he was denied by the city.
My friend ended up hiring a speech therapist on her own. He got about 3 months of services and showed improvement so they stopped with the therapy.
DS was also evaluated but did not qualify. He had a 16% delay and it wasn't enough of a delay. I would have gotten him a therapist on our own but he suddenly had a word explosion around 18-20 months.

Re: If your child didnt qualify for speech services
DS didnt qualify after his evaluation at 2, and we worked with a Speech Therapist through our insurance. I was less than pleased with the services. Now at 2 1/2, it looks like he didnt qualify again. Its so frustrating because I really feel like he could benefit.
I will probably end up going to one of the bigger agencies, paying out of pocket, then sending it to our insurance.

Re: If your child didnt qualify for speech services
It goes by scores. You need a 33% delay in one area, or 25% delay in two areas to qualify. With EI its very black and white. With cpse, you can discuss with the committee, although they do go by scores as well.
