Re: Signs to teach speech impared child
In the beginning we used a lot of PEC pictures for communication.
Eat - motion of hand up to mouth drink - open hand on side of cheek (almost as if your drinking) please - rub belly in clockwise motion daddy - thumb out and fingers up, put thumb up at forehead mommy same thing with hand but on chin
It took awhile, but eventually the signs came quickly.
I have a copy of how to perform the signs from his school....I can send them to you if you'd like.

Re: Signs to teach speech impared child
thank you for the advice - i can look them up on the asl dictionary if they are the same signs
i'll teach him those that you've shared and see how it goes.

Re: Signs to teach speech impared child
i taught my ds a bunch of signs and at 2 he still uses then even though he can hold conversations.
they have a bunch of websites where it shows you a clip of the sign and i found that more helpful than my dictionary.
here's one link but there are better ones if u google it
we did the ones you are already doing plus: mommy & daddy milk water food fruit all done book toy music park sleep diaper change and some others that aren't as useful
