If your child receives services through CPSE...
do they get services at home or go to a school?
I am having DS evaluated now by the school district. We have a few more evaluations and than our meeting. I am not sure if he will receive services but it seems a lot of people who's children receive services go to a school like BOCES or Little Village, etc.
What is the norm? How is it determined whether they get services at home or through a school? Is it the parents choice or school districts choice?

Re: If your child receives services through CPSE...
Lance is in "typical" preschool. He gets center-based speech 2x a week, and 1 "push-in" in class.
It depends on what he qualifies for. If he qualifies for an integrated program, you will have a choice of schools (which will be free), or you can send him to "typical" school. (at your own expense)
If he does not qualify, you will have to send him to "typical" school. You can have his services provided there if they allow it, or you can go to a center, or you can have home-based... Your choice.
The district may make recommendations, but at the end of the day you have the final word.

Re: If your child receives services through CPSE...
Usually they only get services "in" school if they are given a school program and for that they usually need to have a few areas of " need" ...Speech/ and P/T for ex.
But it sooo depends on the school district. We did not think Noah would be offered a school program and was.
If he will be in a school program you are paying for, then the services would probably be there, it is easier on the therapists.
If theres no preschool program offered or needed or attended, the services would be at home. Sometimes you can go to a place just for the therapy but thats less likely ...

Re: If your child receives services through CPSE...
Depends on the services and the child. ie, if it's OT or PT, there might be a need to bring him to a sensory gym. Speech can be done in home, but if you have a child who is distracted easily or you cannot provide a quiet environment, going to another location might work better. My DS gets speech and she comes to our house. My DS is focused 95% of the time. He will be starting new services in July and will go to their SLP's location. As the parent, if it's a service that can be provided in or out of the home you can choose most of the time but that also depends on the SLP. If they only do in home services, you'd have to find another who provides the environment.

I believe that Jack will still be receiving services in our home.

Re: If your child receives services through CPSE...
In September, DS will be getting everything at school. It's what we requested and the district approved. As of now, DS gets PT still in the home and honestly he's just done with it! He runs from the therapist, laughs at her, etc. He got way to comfy with her (she's been with us for about 1.5 years). Another reason we requested it is because DD gets a lot of services as well. Too many people in my home and mommy gets a bit overwhelmed. I feel having it all at school will be a lot less distraction for DS.
