If your child was going to a birthday party...
would you expect there to be food for the parents as well?
We are looking into having DD's 3rd birthday at Mc Donalds with a play area. They give you a lot for the price per child and the only thing holding me back is that I don't know what to do about the parents.
The party would be 4 - 5:30 on a Sunday and I would definitley get cake for the adults as well, but do I need to have real food? They won't allow any outside food. If so, would platters of burgers and fries be good enough? They would always have the option of ordering something on their own if they wanted.

Hmm, not sure honestly. I know I used to work at Chuck E Cheese and most people did buy large pizza pies for their guests and people did eat it. I know a pizza is different then burger.
I think I personally would get a platter or cheeseburger and fries.

4-5:30pm. Probably not! I would assume it's a cake party only.
It is was overlapping with lunch or dinner time then yes, I would think food would be provided.

At a place like McDonalds, I would not expect it as I could just go buy my own food. At party places where you can not buy your own food, a few extra pizzas are usually ordered.
However, even at those places I would not be upset if I was not served food. I can survive 1 1/2 hours without eating.

Yes, I always make sure there is food for the parents. Especially if the party falls at meal time.
We just had a Bowling Bday party for DS and I got two pizzas for the parents also.
ETA - yes I would supply food, not expect it.

Re: If your child was going to a birthday party...
I wouldn't expect it, but if it were my party, I would ALWAYS want to feed everyone, not just the kids. This is the dilemma that I have with having my sons 4th Birthday party at a venue that already serves food. I want everyone to have plenty to eat and drink!!

You can always add on the invite - food will be provided for the kids. I know the chuck e cheese invite on their website has a box you can check for that and then another box that says food will be provided for the kids and adults.

I agree with pretty much this whole post. When I go to a child's birthday party (even before I had a child), I don't assume I will eat there, unless it is in someone's house who I know well.

Re: If your child was going to a birthday party...
I never assume that there will be food for me at a childrens party (especially when they are 1 1/2 hours). The party is for the kids not me and I can control my hunger for that short amount of time if needed.
BUT, being that I come from a family that we ALWAYS offer food to our guests (even if it's a 5 minute visit) I always have food for the adults.

ITA.
But if my kid was a guest at a McD's party, I wouldn't expect to be fed myself.

Re: If your child was going to a birthday party...
DS is 6, and we've been to quite a few b-day parties over the years. There has ALWAYS been food for the adults. At this point, I just assume it's a given that adults will be given the same type of food as DC. If it's a cake-only party, and mentioned that way in the invite, then the parents also only get cake, but if DC gets food, I assume that the adults do as well.

Re: If your child was going to a birthday party...
At that time I don't think it is definitely necessary. All the kids parties I have been to have had food for the adults (pizza or wraps or snacks) but, they have always fallen around meal times - if I were going to a party that spanned the 12-2 time frame or 5-7 time frame I would probably want food (b/c I'd be hungry lol) but, if not, I think you can get away with it!

Re: If your child was going to a birthday party...
Every party I've been to or hosted has had food for the adults. But so many parents don't eat - I went to 2 this weekend and I didn't eat at either - so if you do, don't overorder. And a place like McD is easy enough to get more. I like the idea of cheeseburgers & fries for the parents if you do it. My SIL had a party for my nephew at McD a few years ago and she was telling adults to order what they wanted. I can't imagine how much more that cost. I know DH went and bought his own bc he knew how it can get expensive. I think most parents would not expect that and def would eat a cheeseburger and some fries if they wanted anything. So I would supply it but I would keep it very simple.
