If your DC was prescribed Reflux meds?

DD seems she might be struggling with some reflux. I spoke to my Pediatrician today and she wants me to bring her in tomorrow. She said she wants to weigh her first and then discuss starting her on some Meds for it.

Can you please share your experience with it? Did it help your DC? Are there any side effects?

I also had my boys on special formula---neocate--no elecare--no meds..I tried it and decided against it.
They build up a tolerance and need more and more..and one has alcohol in it--this was jmho..it was not for us. The formula did it along with some other tips like never ever eating laying and simply accepting life is vomit for a long while!
fm me if u need anything!

Re: If your DC was prescribed Reflux meds?

We switched to Alimentum formula, which helped.
We also do Prevacid solutabs- first it was 2x a day, then down to 1x a day. He seems to be doing much better now (almost 6 months) so we may wean him off the meds soon. Still keep him on the Alimentum though.

The reflux "peaked" from about 4 weeks- and seemed to get much better by 4 months- that's when we cut back to 1x a day for the meds.

At 4-5 months DS was put on Zantac. While he did spit up a lot, his bigger problem was trying to drink a bottle and having it come up while he was drinking. It helped immediately. He was on it till his 1 year visit when we gradually took him off. We never had any issues with it.

DS is on Allimentum and still had reflux - he was on Zantac three times a day. At 5 months we weaned him off it...now he takes no meds and the projectile puking phase is GONE - thank g*d

Re: If your DC was prescribed Reflux meds?

DS is on Elecare, Mylanta and Axid. I am not convinced that Axid does much but the doctor insists that it has to be doing something. Mylanta really did the trick but it causes loose stools. We had to cut the dose because of that. DS is gradually outgrowing the reflux issues anyway, so as he is gaining weight we are not increasing the dose. It's a natural way to lead to eventually weaning.

We were on neocate and zantac- definitely needed both! Weened off Zantac before a yr and he was fine!

Re: If your DC was prescribed Reflux meds?

Does anyone think I should try and suggest changing her formula first or just stick with the meds if thats what she chooses?

ETA: Thank you for all of your responses.
