If your DH had a vasectomy -- can you rec the urologist?

We're closing up shop. Chat Icon

I'm not 100% convinced we're done, but we're going to do the research on DH getting a vasectomy.

I told him to ask his two friends who have had it done, but I wanted to ask here if anybody had good/bad experiences with it. Our specific questions are:

Which urologist/practice did you go with?
How much time was spent at/in the hospital?
What is the recovery time, which I know will vary because men consider 'recovery' to be different Chat Icon
Which hospital will do them -- obviously non-Catholic hospitals, right?
Any complications/worries we should consider?

TIA -- I know both my dad and my stepdad had it done but I feel more comfortable asking you ladies. My mom just says, "It's not a big deal." Chat Icon

I'm bumping this too since this option is on the table now too since I had my IUD removed....

Thanks. FM me if you feel it's too private.

Re: If your DH had a vasectomy -- can you rec the urologist?

Its so funny you posted this. DH just had a vasectomy yesterday. He used a group-I think they're called North Shore Urology. They have offices in Northport and Port Jeff. He was seen by Dr. Francis Martinis in the Northport office.
He had a 2:45 appt and called me at 3 to tell me his was done. He drove himself there and home. He said the worst part was the needle (local anesthesia) and unfortunately he had to get two needles and two incisions. All evening he kept saying he was amazed that he was not in much pain at all. He had very slight bleeding. The dr. sent him home with a prescription for an antibioitic and a prescription for vicodin (which we didn't fill). He woke up at 1 am for Motrin and went to work today. I just spoke to him and he described the pain as it "feels like he pulled a muscle".
To be honest, I'm shocked. I was thinking he was going to drive me nuts with complaints and I'd be doing this Chat Icon and Chat Icon but so far so good!Chat Icon

I don't have personal experience with this as I got an IUD.... but if I ever decide to have it removed, DH is going to have to step up to the plate!

All I know is that my BFF DH had one, my DH friend, my dad Chat Icon ... they all had it. And they all lived to tell the tale. From my understanding they are just sore for several days after... nothing major, although you know how well men handle any illness or injury. Chat Icon ... they will probably make it seem like it's the end of the world.... yeah, so much worse than pushing a baby out of your body! Chat Icon

Good luck with whatever you guys decide!

My DH had a laser vasectomy about 1.5 yrs ago. BEST THING EVER!! He was uncomfortable(but nothing a Motrin couldn't handle) for 1 day. He had it done on a Friday and allowed himself the weekend for recovery. The laser is scalpel and stitch free. They literally leave the office with a bandaid. I researched A LOT and found a specialist that is brilliant. She teaches at Cornell and runs out of a great office in Manhasset!! And she is very comfrtable to be around. DH was concerned she was female but that went out the window 2 minutes after he met her.

DH used Dr. Fisch in West Islip, right across from Good Sam. He was great, and did a previous, major surgery on DH "down there" as well.

HIGHLY recommend!

Bingo! That's my Urology Group (for my kidney issues!).... I've never seen her, but most of the other doctors there! Great, now I feel confident in having him call UA.
