If your toddler misses a nap or takes a much shorter nap one day

How do they sleep at night? Do they generally make up the sleep defecit by sleeping longer at night?

DD doesn't and never has. She generally is restless in her sleep that night, and is up even earlier than normal, resulting in even LESS sleep for the overall day Chat Icon Chat Icon

Lily's daytime napping is never the same. When she's with my dad during the week, she'll take 2 naps, at least an hour each. When she's home with me, she'll take 1 nap - usualy about 45 minutes.
But her sleep at night is always the same. She goes to bed at 8 and wakes up beween 7 and 8.

Yep..No nap usually means bedtime is a lot earlier and she sleeps through the nite and wakes up normal time.

Most of the time, I cant say all the time that happens.

DS is the same way---the only thing that helps for us is an earlier bedtime.

Her nap long or short never affects her sleeping at night.

He sleeps thesame at night regardless of the nap. We were just away for Spring Break and there were a couple of days he either didn't nap at all or took a short one in the car. It didn't effet his night time sleeping one bit. He didn't really go to bed and earlier then usual or sleep any later.

When DD misses or takes a shorter nap she seems much more cranky the remainder of the day, but still does not go down for bed any earlier

If she misses a nap she sleeps the same amount at night...no extra sleep to make up for it.

DS is exactly the same. His sleep is restless and he will wake even earlier and then be super cranky the next day bc he is so tired!!

If she misses a nap, then we put her down an hour earlier for bed. Sometimes this helps.

Sometimes DS sleeps a bit longer on nights like these but sometimes he's up early/extra early. We did have a good routine going but recently his one nap of the day (anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours long) seems to be getting pushed later and later in the day where he sometimes wakes up at around 5/5:30 then down for the night around 8 p.m. and waking around 5 a.m.Chat Icon

His nighttime sleep is okay, but not great when he has no nap. He doesn't go to bed much earlier than usual, and he often wakes up during the night or earlier than usual the next day. Usually the following day he DOES take a decent nap, but occasionally he seems to get in a rut.
