I thought the masks were not effective?
And gloves transfer germs to other things just like bare hands. Just wash your hands/use sanitizer when you leave a store, etc.

And yes , please save the masks and gloves for the people who really need them. They are in desperate need

Nope. I’m doing the best I can to protect myself but I’m not going to take masks and gloves when they are needed elsewhere. Plus in the end 80% of us will have it. This isn’t for us to not get sick just not get it at the same time.

No. If I go grocery shopping I wipe the cart down with a Clorox wipe and sanitize my hands when I'm done. Then I wash them as soon as I get in the house.

I haven't been out, but when DH goes out for work or to the grocery I make him. I made masks for us watching a you tube video. Look at the charts for countries that mask wearing was done early and where it is more socially acceptable to wear masks. Their curves are much flatter. South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore.

Today was my first time out since 3/13. I had to pick something up for my parents. The store was empty and the majority of the ppl in the store (including myself) were wearing masks. Most ppl had gloves too. I would have been wearing gloves if I had them.

Yup!

I just make sure to use hand sanitizer the second I am done with the cart and wash my hands as soon as I get home.

I’m trying to make fewer trips - the people shopping are still in quite a panic - not hoarding but I can’t tell you how many people ran into me the other day with their shopping carts for either being in a rush or not paying attention.

Haven't been out much except to the grocery store where I will wipe down the cart before I use it. I have seen some people with N95 masks in the store - not the surgical kind, the legit N95 ones - and it really bothers me. Surgical masks wouldn't really upset me, the the N95 wearers do. The mayor and governor are moaning every day about not having enough PPE for medical workers and lay people are using them to food shop? Save them for those on the front line that need them.

I’m minimizing how many times i go out, but yes, wearing a mask and gloves when i do. Then lysoling anything i buy before it goes in my car, and sanitizing my hands when i get the gloves off. Washing when I get home.

If you are practicing social distancing and washing your hands you do not need a mask to go to the supermarket. If you go out to stop and shop and see a crowded parking lot, please leave and go back later or go to another store.

This is what I am doing. It’s still cold by me so I’m wearing regular gloves and just taking them off before I get into my car and washing them when I get home. I noticed the store was packed on Sunday morning so I skipped going and came back on Monday.

I havent been out yet. Before Sunday, I went to 3 different stores, and realized that some people are pigs!! I saw rubber gloves on the ground in the parking lot, or in the shopping carts.Chat Icon

LastLightGlow thanks for sharing that information. Please stay safe. I really hope you all get the supplies you need shortly.

I have not been out to the store since 3/16 but if I was going, I would not be wearing gloves or masks. I know this is mildly crazy but I would spray myself down with lysol before getting in the car plus hand sanitizer and then wash my hands well when I get home.

Re: If you're going out, are you wearing gloves or masks/covering your face?

Last time I went to the store I just stayed as far as I could away from other. I brought a baggie full of Lysol wipes for the cart and gave them out to others walking in bc the store didn’t have any.

I Used hand sanitizer as soon as I got to the car, came home washed my hands and Lysol wiped everything I purchased Straight from the bags, washed my produce with soap and hot water and then threw my shopping bags in the wash. Not gonna lie, the process was exhausting but it’s just what has to be done now.

The best was at Target about a week ago. This woman comes out wearing gloves. Stands there and touches her purse, touches her face, grabs her cellphone.
All while wearing the gloves she had on in the store.
Genius.

No, but I wipe my hands as soon as I get in the car, along with my steering wheel, knobs, handles, etc... then I wash my hands when I get home and again after I unpack all my groceries. I went out last Friday to get some groceries and I used my reusable bags while shopping. I didn’t want to touch a cart or hand cart, so I just got as much as I could fit in the 2 reusable bags that I could carry.

Yep see this all the time when i'm out so i do not wear them. Also, see them go into their purse with the gloved hands and get their wallet then money out. Defeats the purpose. Wash/sanitize your hands and keep your distance...thats all you can do. Wearing a placebo does not.

Yes! I feel like it's a false sense of security- which is worse.
And weren't they telling us that wearing a mask doesn't work anyway? The sides are open!

I get a panic attack wearing a mask anyway. I can't handling re-breathing in my own hot breath.

Honestly the reason they wer e saying they don’t work was to keep people from buying up all the supplies that first responders would possibly need. It happened anyway though. Bc as you see, they are Asking for ANY type of mask, even homemade ones at this time. Some protection is better than no protection especially if the person in line in front of you sneezes.

With that said-I personally haven't worn one. But that doesn’t mean I won’t if this goes on for months on end. But it would most likely be a homemade one that can be washed with additional filter placed inside for extra precaution. Thankfully my MIL can sew. I’m not a medical professional who needs full PPE and wouldn’t want to take any supplies away from them

They should have said toilet paper and hand sanitizer don't work either in that case!

I noticed tampons were wiped off the shelves a week or so ago too.
Maxi pads...maybe you can wipe with. Chat Icon
But what on earth are people doing stockpiling tampons?? Chat Icon

Then I saw something on facebook about taking a roll of paper towels, cutting it in half and using the 2 halves as 2 rolls of TP.
All I could think of was- OMG if you flush paper towels you are going to have a major plumbing issue and a $400 roto rooter bill!

I agree with you. I am not an OCD person. But whether I wear gloves or use sanitizer- there always seems to be that last item I touched that I believe I contaminated. (ie car door handle or hand sanitizer bottle.) Feels like a game of whack-a-mole
