If you're on "the pill" ...
Do you plan on staying on it forever (after your done having children, I mean)? I've been on it since college, never had any problems and cannot imagine taking a more permanent birth control options ( I'm such a baby).

I did until I was diagnosed with HBP (from the pill). I would have stayed on it forever.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I planned on it until i had a CRVO in each eye this summer. After extensive tests the only conclusion they could come up with for the cause was the pill. I was on it for 14 yrs. Everything else was negative. I still have lingering issues with my vision.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I was on it for many years until my migraines became severe. My neurologist and gyn felt being on the pill was no longer safe. I now have a para guard IUD and it is the best bc I have ever used. No pills, no hormones and no worries.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I had planned on getting an IUD after my 2nd DD because we were pretty sure we were done having kids, but I didn't want to do anything permanent because I was only 32. They had trouble putting the IUD so right now I am not on anything because being on the pill really messed with my hormones since having kids.
Maybe in another year or so I'll look into something more pemanent.

I planned on it until it almost ended up killing me by giving me DVT and PE.

Yes, been on since a teenager, stopped to have ds, back on now. I love having very light periods, for no more than 3 days if that. My friends on IUD have heavier ones, for a lot longer. For now, I'm very happy, and I'm done having kids

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I was on it for years but I started getting migraines. The last straw was when I was having really sharp pains in my chest, they sent me to the emergency room to make sure I didn't have a pulmonary embolism from the pill. My doctor advised me that in her medical opinion, the pill was safe but she, herself, wouldn't take it because no one really knows all of the side effects

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
The risk of blood clots etc from the pill goes up after age 35 so I wouldn't stay on it much past that age. There is a new permanent birth control for when you are done having kids. It's called Essure and its non surgical and much less invasive than getting your tubes tied.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I have 2 kids, age 36 and am done having babies. I have been on the pill for about 4 years. I just had a visit with my GYN and she said I'm fine to stay on the Levora, low dose that I take since I have no issues being on it.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I plan on staying on it until my gyn recommends otherwise (due to age). Been on it 15 yrs, prior to preg, and resumed it 6 weeks post partum.

I was on it for 10 years and plan on going back on it once I'm done having my kids.
I've never had any issues on it, so I will prob stay on it till my gyn recommends otherwise

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I was on it for about 10 years before I had my DC. After my DS, I tried to go back on the pill, but I could not for the life of me remember to take it. It was so strange because I had always been so good about it.
After my DD was born and I knew I was done having kids, I had an IUD put in. My DH actually didn't want me taking hormones anymore.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I'm over 35 and I also can't take hormonal BC now because of high blood pressure issues. I have the Mirena IUD before and will consider it again. (ETA: Mirena is hormonal, but my OB said it was ok because of the type of hormone. It does not contain estrogen).

Usually and IUD will give you heavier periods during the first few cycles following insertion than cycles generally get light. After having my IUD for five years my periods last 3-4 days and are fairly light.

I got the Mirena and my period was heavy and a little long for the 1st month. Then is got lighter and lighter each month for about 6 months and then it went away. Its been 3 yrs and I LOVE it. I plan to take it out next year to TTC#2 and then I will put it back in again.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
When we are done having children, I will not be using birth control other than condoms because at that point I will be over 35 and do not want to risk any adverse side effects (ie, blood clots). I don't want to get my tubes tied... DH has mentioned getting his though so that may be an option.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
DH will have a vasectomy when we are done having children. I actually went off the pill a year ago and will never go back on. I just didn't want to be on anything hormonal anymore, and while i'm not sure about what is recommended in terms of length of years on the pill, it was just something I wasn't comfortable being on anymore.

Re: If you're on "the pill" ...
I've been on it since I'm 19, save the TTC and pregnancy times. I'm done after this pregnancy though so I'll be getting a tubal ligation during my cesarean. I'm pretty happy to be off - it's been almost 15 years, I can't imagine staying on for another 15+ years.
