If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
We booked a cruise to the Bahamas for our babymoon. We have never been on a cruise before. Should I be cautious of what I eat and drink since I'm preggo? Is the tap water safe to drink? Is it okay for me to dip in the pool? Should I avoid the buffet? I want to hear everything. Please share your experience.

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
I went on a cruise to the Bahamas, when I was 16 weeks. I didn't go in the pool I just layed out by the pool would stick my feet in and stuff. I wanted to go to the beach at the bahamas but the day we were there it was TOO WINDY!..
As for water, I bought bottle after bottle, I didn't drink the tap water. I ate basically all the food(except for what my mind doesnt let me eat..cold cuts, fish, etc.) The dinners weren't hard at all to find something..they worked with me every night.
We went when Hurricane IDA so it was VERY ROCKY...I didn't get sick at all, but was afraid if I did what i was gonna be able to take.
I had an amazing time!

Thanks for the info!
There's no smoking on the ship right? What cruise line did you sail with?

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
We took carnival, how about you?.....and yes there is smoking on the ship.
We tried to avoid the casinos at night time...bc that is when it was filled with smoke...one lounge you were allowed to smoke and of course all the bars/clubs. Your also allowed to smoke anywhere on the outside decks. So if your sitting by the pool...try to notice who you sit next too...bc they can smoke right next to you.
Annoying yes..but it def wasn't something that i couldn't avoid.
ETS:
MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR DOCTORS APPROVAL...carnival you need to get a papered signed saying it was ok for you to travel pregnant...They asked for the original when we signed in.

we cruised Carnival, a 5 day Bahama cruise over new years 07-08 and it was great.
there was smoking on the ship but in designated areas (some were inside). Also, I would stick to bottled beverages. The pool shouldnt be a problem, neither should the buffet. Just stick to cooked foods!
We had a blast, enjoy!

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
Thanks ladies! We booked with NCL. I understand with the smoking outdoors, bars and clubs. As long as there's no smoking in restaurants, I'm okay.
I know they wash the salads with tap water. Should I avoid that?
What kind of activities did you do on the boat? I feel like I can't do anything other than lay next to the pool.

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
I was supposed to go on a cruise last winter while I was pregnant, but found out they wouldn't let me on the ship because I was too far along. I think their cut-off was 24 or 26 weeks. I couldn't believe it, that seemed really early to me, but we couldn't go. So, just make sure you check the cruise line policies.

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
I'm glad you posted this and you ladies are responding! We are doing a 7 night cruise the end of February! I will be 17 weeks! I'm a little nervous, but so far have not been sick at all, so I'm praying I'll be fine on the boat. We've cruised many times, and sometimes I wore those ugly bracelets, and they really helped!

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
avoid the hot tub, def go in the pool its salt water!! just be careful with food as you would at home, regarding cheeses, fishes, dressings, desserts ( with raw egg), you will have a blast! I went at 26 weeks loved it! wanted to add I went on ncl spirit out of new york in august, I normally get sea sick nothing being pregnant, it was the best I have ever felt! you can do anything just in moderation- except- excursions NO waverunners, no bicycle, no rough road jeep stuff, becareful in the heat, do not lay out too long, heat is not good for you or the baby, stay cool! my dr said immodium was def ok if I got food poisoning and tylenol if headache, sore etc.

Which cruise are you boarding? I'll be on the NCL gem leaving nyc on 2/20.

Re: If you've been on a cruise.. I have tons of questions.
We went on a cruise when I was 15 weeks last time.
I won't drink tap water on vacation when I'm not pregnant, so there was no chance of me doing it then, but you don't have to worry about every little thing that has been touched by tap water - your salad will be fine to eat.
I ate absolutely everything and anything I wanted to. Gained 5 pounds on that trip!
I went in the pool, but avoided the hot tub. There was a sign posted anyway that preggos aren't allowed in the hot tub. We also went snorkeling twice.
There was only smoking allowed in the casino on our ship so it was fairly easy to avoid.
The hardest part was staying awake for the midnight buffet which was DELICIOUS, but I was falling asleep waiting online to enter.
Have fun!

Thank you for easing my mind about the salad. I love salads and can't imagine not having any the entire trip. I'll dip in the pool but probably won't be in it for long. All I know is it's a salt water pool so I'm not sure what the pros and cons are. And I'll stick to bottled water.
