If you've had a crown/cap on your tooth, I have a question...
Do you know if crowns/caps are supposed to last forever? I have been having a lot of pain where I have a crown, and I don't think I should have any pain since I had a root canal in that tooth. I am wondering if I need a new crown? I can't imagine why else it would hurt!

It is possible that the root canal failed and you need another one. I had that happen a few months ago - it sux!! I have such bad teeth!!! I would definitely go to the dentist ASAP!

they may not have gotten the whole root Crowns are supposed to last a long time... but not necessarily forever. could it be the gums are irritated by it? or is it definitely down in the root area??
i feel your pain!!!

How long have you had it?? I know I had a crown put on when I was about 13 and they said when I turned 16 I would have to have it replaced..don't know why but I never did, but looking at it now, it does need to be replaced because the tooth is actually coming out the bottom of the crown.

I've had this crown for over five years, and to be honest, it's hard to tell exactly where the pain is.
I don't even have a dentist down here yet so I may have to schlep back down to Queens.
Thank you ladies.

for the time being- maybe try rinsing with warm water and peroxide (equal parts). If it is the gum area around the tooth, this will help it Alot!!!

that happened to me and as it turned out i needed to have another surgery called an apicoectomy. its when they flip up the gum and do something with the remaining root. but i opted to have the tooth pulled instead, since it was a back molar. i really did not want to have another root canal or apico.

If this is the case, I will have it pulled too as it's a back tooth. In the meantime, I am going to try the peroxide rinse.

Ususally its the guyms that are infected and the pain spreads. If there are no roots there at all left then thats definatly it... If they left a root it could be that, I dont think its the cap at all.
Sorry your in pain

Re: If you've had a crown/cap on your tooth, I have a question...
I have a crown due to a chipped tooth (the whole corner of a back tooth)- a root canal didn't have to be done b/c I didn't get into the nerve so the cap is basically over the filed down existing tooth. sometime it hurts and it's b/c of my gums.
