If you've had a white gold ring dipped...
Have you needed it done more than once? If so, is it a problem with the ring itself or are you someone that just can't wear white gold?
My engagement ring has been dipped 2x since I got it in 2006. The 1st time it needed it badly & the 2nd time the jeweler did it after I had the ring sized & it cracked/needed repairs. Now here it is 3 months later & it looks like it needs it again - BADLY. Is this normal? Should I expect to get it dipped every year or so?

I think it has something to do with your body chemistry- sometimes it wears away quicker depending on that.

Same thing happens to my rings. I think it's normal. If I would have known, I think we may have spent alittle more and gone for platinum rings. Oh well...

I just had mime done and the last time I had them done was about a year and a half so I think it's normal. I go to the flea,market now though it's much cheaper and they do it right in front of you takes about 15 min

My SIL used to get a ring of hers dipped every year. It's a thick band with a design around the entire ring (no stones).
She was told that the gold can fade into the grooves of the design and to do it every year.
She no longer wears it every day and gets it dipped every two or 2 1/2 years.
Edit- I should mention that it was originally yellow gold and she has it dipped so it's white gold.

I have mine dipped once a year on our anniversary. From what I understand, this is normal with white gold to keep it looking new. I'm actually getting mine done this week.

Great tip! Thanks for sharing  I always hate leaving my ring - I'd rather just wait the 15 min.

My e-ring is white gold. I had it dipped once, but just because they did it for free when I had it sized/cleaned right before the wedding. It wasn't yellowing at all. That was May 2010 and still no signs of wear.
ETA: And I wear my rings everywhere/doing everything- washing the dishes, at the beach, at night, etc. I only ever take them off when I shower.

Thanks ladies...glad to hear it's normal. I take it off at night, in the shower & when I put on lotion, but I do have eczema on my hands (and under my rings) so even though I take them off all the time there's often some sort of lotion on under the bands. I guess that doesn't help things...

its normal because white gold isnt white.
The length of time in between dipping will depend on you body chemistry.

I get it dipped once a year. Full cleaned, dipped and shined up.
All of my rings in fact. They all turn yellow.
Also, my platinum ring gets scratched up so I have that dipped too.
