If you've had pre-term contractions...
I have a question. I did have them with my son starting at 28 weeks, but these are worse.
I went today and had the FFN test done and it came up negative. I came home, and the cramping is still there and getting stronger. Now, I keep on telling myself that I am okay for 2 weeks, because the test came back neg. but is this true? Thanks!!!

Re: If you've had pre-term contractions...
I had the FFN test at 25 weeks. It came back negative.
I am 37 weeks, with a c-section scheduled for Friday at 38 weeks, 1 day.
I have continued to contract since the test, and no baby yet!!

Re: If you've had pre-term contractions...
What is the FFN test ????... I'm only 22 weeks but occasionally I get a "tightening" in my stomach, i assumed it was braxton hicks...I can't remember if I had this w/ my DS, but now that I have previa this pregnancy, I have been much more aware of what I feel ...I also never went into labor w/ DS (he was a c-sect. due to size) so i have no idea what feelings are norml and whats not ...

Re: If you've had pre-term contractions...
The FFn is the fetal fibronectin test...basically it determines if you are at chance of delivering within the next 2 weeks.
If you have the tightening in your stomach more than 4 times an hour, and it persists, then you should call your dr. I am not sure if this changes being that you have previa, but this is what my dr had told me.

It definaetly isnt 4x an hour but a couple of times a day...I'm going to pay better attention to it now that I'm aware...Is the FFN test something that is given routinely or do I need to ask about it ??? Sorry for all the questions (I'm pretty certain i didnt have it done w/ DS)

Re: If you've had pre-term contractions...
I did! I was in the hospital at 28 weeks with contractions, had the FFN which came back negative, and they sent me on my way. However the contractions kept up and about 2 weeks later one night they were coming every 3-5 min. I wound up in L&D again to find out that I am still not dilating. They gave me terbutaline which stopped them temporarily but they came back a few hours later. After that they told me to just watch them- if they get stronger or more frequent then I need to get them checked out. I've had one more FN since then which came back negative and now I am 36 weeks so they are no longer concerned. I did some research on this and I feel like what I have fits in the catergory of "irritable uterus." It made me feel a little better to know I wasn't crazy!! (google it, the descritptions of it fit exactly what I was feeling)

Re: If you've had pre-term contractions...
I had the ffn last week at 24 weeks. I was having minor contractions so they gave me the test, which was negative. I also keep telling myself that I am ok for at least another week, but I keep thinking that I am feeling contractions, then they go away, then I think I feel them. It is totally nerve wracking. Try to drink a lot of water. Even minor dehydration can cause contractions. I have also found that lying on my side really helps.

this sound almost exact to what happened with my son...It started at 28 weeks, and I had the shot 3 times ( i do not react well to it at all, thats why I declined it today). Anyway, I ended up delivering him on my due date---so I went from being nervous that I would deliver early, to doing everything I could to get him out

LOL, yeah now my guy is breech so although I'm ready to have him out I'm not ready to go into labor on my own and end up with en emergency c-section!! But we were definately scared about having him early. They say if you have an irritable uterus you will most likley have it each time you are pregnant so I guess this is something I better get used to!!
