Baby kicking or contractions for pre-term labor? UPDATED
First a bit of a background. All women in my family have been on bedrest from 12-16 wks pregnancy. So far, still working and beating the odds at 28 wks.
Except last night..... I woke up with AF cramp like (which I had a few times on and off for the past 2 wks). Urge to go to the bathroom and lots of "kicking". Problem is I was not sure it was kicking but sometimes more like 'twinges". Then a couple of times, I had a "squeezing" pain down there. I could not lay on my side. It lasted over 1 hour and would come and go every few minutes.
How do you know if you are having contractions vs. baby is kicking?
I will try to call the dr. today but I really have an appt with her tomorrow night.
***************** UPDATE
It was a false alarm. It's not labor. She still had to check just because of the symptoms. It's most likely a bladder infection and she told me that sometimes the uterus contracts when you have a bladder infection (Note to self: uterus contractions are NOT always labor).
I am relieved. I can deal with the infection. While I can't wait for my little baby... it's a bit too early for him to show up.
FOR THE GREAT NEWS..... I passed the 1 hour glucose test.

Sophie....ME TOO!!! The whole night I kept waking up with this horrible pain/s and everything you described. I wrote it off as sympathy for Liza...but now you are making me doubt that again. THANKS. You call your dr. and let me know...maybe we're both just having sympathyfor Liza.

I guess I will be waiting for the same OB to call me back too! I am NOT moving from my chair today. I am limiting any movement. I am pretty freaked out!

Re: Baby kicking or contractions for pre-term labor?
I had preterm contractions from 25 weeks and was put on bedrest with meds.
From what you are describing it doesn't sound like preterm contractions. To me it sounds like the baby is pressing against the walls of your uterus.
You'll know if they are preterm if-At least for me this is what they felt like..
1-you're whole entire belly gets hard and stays that way for a time period, not just a part of it. 2-They come in waves, think of a bell curve. 3-They usually start from your back on move forward. 4-Are usually painful when you feel the curve 5-if you have more than 4 in 1 one hour-DEF CALL THE DR. Lay on your left side and drink water in meantime.
If you think at anytime you are having preterm call the doc, better safe and be monitored than have a preterm baby.

Re: Baby kicking or contractions for pre-term labor?
I have to say, you are describing how I felt this morning TO A T!!!
I woke up around 6:00 and had horrible AF like cramps that would "twist" around my body to the lower back.
They were coming every 10 seconds or so for an hour. It felt like I had to pee and poop and I was feeling the baby really low.
I was freaking out, but when I stood up and took a shower, they went away.
I have a doctor's appointment at 4, so I'm going to talk to her about it then.
Hope you are feeling better.

She told me to stop worrying when I talked to her but she is glad I am paying attention to my body
Congrats on passing the 1 hr!
