if you've recently gotten a 30 year fixed mortgage...please help!

I don't know why, but I feel like I'm getting screwed on our interest rate.

We're being quoted 6.375% for our 30 year fixed. That seems a little high to me, considering we have really good credit.

Would you guys mind sharing some numbers with me? I just feel like it should be a bit lower... Chat Icon

PotofLuck, any idea if you guys paid the origination fee upfront? We were offered 6% if we were to pay that upfront, but it's another $2100 that we really don't have.

I was quoted 6.25 on Friday. I was told that the rates would be increasing because of the march employment rates (they were very good). The NY Times on Sundays posts the mortgage rates and I think it was in the 6.3% range. I didn't lock in at that 6.25 rate, so I'm hoping it goes down...

We were quoted 6.375% in March for a Jumbo mortgage. Is yours a jumbo mortgage??

We locked in on 4/7 at 6.125. I know our mortgage broker told us the rates were going up, so he wanted to lock us in then. A couple of weeks earlier he could have gotten lower... they go up and down.

We didn't pay any fee except the mortgage application fee of $300 with HSBC. DH and I have excellent credit, and we locked in on a Sunday b/c Monday the rates went up to 6.125, which we wanted to avoid in Dec.

6.5% (Chat Icon ) and locked at the end of October 06. It's a gamble -- had I locked about two weeks earlier, my rate would've been 6.3%. My broker thought rates would go up more so I locked. That wasn't the case.

Thank you all SO MUCH for your help. I did do lots of shopping around, and thought all the estimates were right around the same amount...I just wanted to make sure that the rates have indeed gone up, and that we're not just being taken for a ride. Chat Icon

Thank you !!!!

Could very well be...DH did say that it could be the fact that our mortgage will only be $245,000, and not much more like it would be here.

not really because we only mortgaged $252,000 which is almost the same as $245,000 when you look into monthly payments.

Re: if you've recently gotten a 30 year fixed mortgage...please help!

we locked in at 5.75 in dec and closed in jan.
but the rates have gone up some.

I'm thinking 6.25 is reasonable.
