Ikea Kitchens
So I am redoing the kitchen in my co-op. I dont want to spend tons of $$ since hopefully we will only be a here a couple more years.
I never even thought of Ikea until I saw a couple posts on here. So for those who have used them please tell me about it. I looked on their website and I am getting excited. Did you just buy the cabinets, use them for installation. how much did you save? How was the service? How do you like your kitchen?
Anything would be great. TIA

I don't have a lot of information, but a friend of mine used them for her kitchen and her cabinets are gorgeous!

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I don't want to hijack your post, but we own a co-op and didn't want to spend $$$$ for our new kitchen either. We got everything at Home Depot and didn't spend a lot... Image Attachment(s):

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I like it. I am having trouble trying to figure out how to fit everything I want and not lose cabinets. Do you have a dishwasher in there? And if you dont mind me asking about how much did it cost?

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I don't have a personal experience but DH worked at Ikea and he said that their kitchens were really popular. They are really nice looking and the kitchen designers are really helpful.

I added another picture to show the other side of my kitchen. We did the kitchen 4 years ago and probably spent about 5 thousand for everything. The dishwasher & fridge were already there when we bought the co-op.

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I have an Ikea kitchen. We love it, we ordered all our cabinets and countertop and I personally put it all together, no problem. Then we had a private contractor install everything. I think its great quality for a great price.

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I just bought a co-op that the previous owners remolded with Ikea cabinets. I dont know how much they spent but I do love the cabinets. They go to the ceiling and the top cabinets go really far back. Here is a pic. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Ikea Kitchens
Ok I have a 10 x 10 kitchen that I am doing an L and then a work area in another corner. (Sorry, really hard to describe) anyway I didnt want to spend a lot so I am using Mills Pride from Home Depot and for all of my cabinets including a special order lazy susan I am paying just over 1000.00 and they designed it for free. They do charge to measure (100) but they credit that back to you when you buy the cabinets. Also, I am using counter top that is 44.00 a sf installed and my mom is using a different one which is 59.00 a sf so it doesnt have to be expensive. As for the installation, my dh and uncle doing it.
Some people dont like mills pride because you have to put them together yourself but my mom used them about 9-10yrs ago and she loves them. She enlarged her kitchen and she was able to buy the exact oak again and now she just needs to add a new countertop.
Hope this helps.

Bxgell2 is her screen name.
I don't have any info on IKEA cabinets. My FIL is a kitchen designer and it made for better family relations to get all of my cabinets through him

That's me! Yes, we have an Ikea kitchen and I absolutely love it. It's made to look like beadboard, in white, and we installed it two and half years ago in our house. We just bought a new house and we love the kitchen from our old house so much that we're installing exactly the same cabinets. For us it made sense to go with Ikea because we really like the white beadboard cabinets, but no one makes them in real wood because the paint fades. For our new house we were willing to spend more money for higher quality wood cabinets, but as it turns out, no one makes them in wood. We priced the same exact cabinets at home depot and lowes and they were DOUBLE the price as compared to the ones at Ikea, for the exact same quality. What's more, I did a little research on Consumer Reports and they rate Ikea very high, higher than many of the home depot, lowes and high end cabinet makers.
So, here are the details - for our old house (see the picture below) the cabinets cost us $2,500.00. We also bought our butcher block counters at Ikea for about $300.00. DH installed it all himself, it took about a week. For our new house, we're installing the kitchen this week. The cabinets cost us $4,500.00. The same cabinets at Home Depot would have cost us $10,000.00 (without installation). Again, DH is doing it himself so we're saving money on the installation...

Re: Ikea Kitchens
We installed our Ikea kitchen a little over 2 years ago and I love them. They were so easy to put together (I put the island together myself which I was proud of ) We put cabinets in the dinning room side for my china and you can see that is higher on that side as opposed to the kitchen side. We paid $4500 for all the cabinets and DH and my BIL installed them in a weekend. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Ikea Kitchens
I can't find it, but someone posted a Consumer Reports ranking of kitchen cabinets recently. Ikea was up there. Not in the perfect scores, but they scored reasonably well.
