I'm 32 weeks...and my OB hasn't measured my fundal height yet...

Anyone else in their 3rd trimester have a doc that hasn't even done this yet? (this is when they measure your belly) Maybe he'll start when I see him on Tuesday. But I read they usually start this in the 2nd tri.

I'm almost starting to question why my appts with him are so damn FAST! I like that I get a quick sono every time...but he doesn't really do much of anything else.

I'm trying to come up with some questions...and he's VERY receptive to questions and he even tells me I can come in between appts if I want...

So right now I want to ask him to recommend pediatricians, I want to talk about how he feels about epidurals and episiotomies....

I also want to see if he can write a doc's note to freeze my gym membership I haven't been in AGES...and I know I won't for a while after the birth. He can do that right?

Any other questions you can think of? TIA!

I dont think my Dr ever did this with my 1st (born at 37 weeks 3 days) and he hasnt done this with this pregnancy either 33 weeks +

My docs started doing this at 24 weeks. If you would like him to do it (just in case), maybe you could ask him, "so does my stomach/uterus seem to be measuring ok?" This might get him to take the measurement.

Don't worry about your appointments- mine are really fast too! I think for you, since you're 3 weeks ahead of me, the appointments are going to start coming more often and more will be happening during them. I can't think of other questions off the top of my head, but I bet you'll think of more as you get more info further along in your pregnancy. So exciting!

In summary, the fundal height is an antiquated and sometimes obsolete method of judging the appropriate growth of the baby during a pregnancy. It's best use is in large clinics and when a patient presents as a surprise with no prenatal care. But in small private practices, it is superseded by consistent same-physician evaluations throughout the pregnancy.

MY regular OB has NEVER measured my Fundal Height and neither has my high risk dr. i saw the other OB in my practice about 2 months ago and she did. So i guess they all are different.

my dr kind of quickly felt for the top of my uterus the other day..he was so quick about it though that I would have missed it if I had looked away for a second. I think maybe he would have examined the measurement closely if he thought there was a problem.

I think your questions are great and I am writing them down as things I need to ask too!

My doctors have been measuring my belly for the past 3 or 4 appointments (I think). I guess right around the start of the third trimester. They just measure quickly and say that I am a good size.

I definitely think your other questions are good. My office gave me a list of pediatricians in the area and as you know I already started calling them.

ETA: I don't get mini-sonograms at each visit so maybe that is your doctor's way of making sure everything is ok with the baby.

I am just about 34 weeks and they have measured my belly the last 4 appointments. I was measuring early so they gave me a growth sono about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Ask him about it at your next visit.

I think my Dr. started this at 34 weeks, but she didn't do it at every visit.

my preactice has 4 midwives and my fundal height gets measured depending on who i see. now they've been feeling for the baby to make sure she's in position and then i guess since they're there they feel for the top of my uterus.

My Dr. has not done this either I''m 33 weeks now, but around 28 weeks he started manually "grabbing" my belly and he does top to bottom and side to side so I guess thats how he gets an idea of approximate growth. 12 years ago with my first daughter, my midwife used to do the same thing, and she was pretty accurate about my baby's weight. I would say that since you get mini sonos yor Dr. propably has an idea of whats going on in there

Every doc is different, mine doesn't always take out the measuring thing and do the fundal height she does it more by feel. She says she knows what it is without actually measuring it.

i think it depends on the dr because i've seen all 3 of my drs since like week 24 and only one of them measured me. my main dr hasn't yet :(

Did have this done with 1st or 2nd child. I'm 30 weeks with this pregnancy and never had a measurement either.

i got measured at 23weeks for my first time and will get one every visit till i deliver now.

ask him why he hasnt measured im sure he thinks u look fine.

They do it every visit starting at 17 weeks.

My OB never measured my fundal height. I had a growth sono at 32 weeks and that was it.

Nope, my Doc doesn't measure my belly either. I'm almost 37 weeks. I have an appt tomorrow so I don't know if he'll do it then, but I don't think so. Probably another internal. All the sonos have told me about the size of the baby and position.
