I'm a little concerned...

I called three different insurance companies for homeowners quotes. one of the three asked for my SS#. The other two did not, and got back to me with rates. The one who has my # never got back to me. I'm a little worried.

Am I overreacting? Has anyone else been asked for their SS#? I was told they had to run my credit.

I will answer that one for you Chat Icon

Its asked at times, to run a loss report. A loss report is needed esp if you were a previous homeowner before.
Previous claims can cause an issue in getting insurance esp within the last 3yrs.

In the end, they will need it but its not run for anything outside of what I just mentioned.

It could also be used to check your credit in addition to losses as Smiley mentioned.

Re: I'm a little concerned...

Geico and Metlife both ran credit checks on me and DH for our insurance. I heard it's becoming a common thing. Some companies are starting to give you rates according to your credit score.

Re: I'm a little concerned...

Most insurance, home and otherwise, ask for your ss# b/c they run your credit. Your credit score has an impact on your payments.
