I'M A PUPPY MAMMA!!!!!!!! Now updated with more pictures!! New UPDATE!
Yes my fellow pets board posters, I'm proud to say we finally found our pup!!
We adopted a nine week old pit bull/lab mix from the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. We went in there "just to look around"... Yeah, right!!! 
Anyway, we were there looking around and to be honest, it was incredibly, emotionally overwhelming. I was literally brought to tears. I had to walk outside and take a fresh breath. These dogs are just all so adoreable and the fact that there are people who were even able to give up these beautiful pooches just tore me apart. So the "need" to get a pure breed went STRAIGHT out the window and down to business we went! 
It was such a difficult, yet easy decision to make. I saw my little hansome and the minute she put him into my arms I knew he was it! The difficult part came into play when we found out that we couldn't take him home today.  b/c they still have to neuter him. So, they scheduled to do it Monday and we can take our boy home Tuesday. Now I just hope I can make it that long!
The other thing I did, was submit an application to volunteer there. I just can't tell you guys what I felt in that shelter. I was honestly touched in a way I have never been before.
I told Kenny (DH), it's really a good thing we don't have a bigger house with a bigger piece of property b/c he would have had to convince me NOT to adopt all the dogs there.
I can't even begin to tell you how AWESOME all the dogs there are. So well behaved, so friendly... just wanting to be loved by a family and to have a warm home to be in. I'm serious when I say I don't think I will EVER get a pure breed again.
So before he comes home we have to get a bed, crate, food, toys not to mention a collar and leash! At this point his name is Arnold, though I'm not sure if we're going to keep it.
As soon as I have pictures (my niece is sending the ones she took with her phone) I will post them!!!
All I can say, is that I am in LOVE!

I can't thank you all enough for the well wishes, I really can't!
Kenny and I are just SOOOOO excited about getting our little boy. You should see the house, it's hysterical! We have EVERYTHING!!!
But no pup!
We're seriously, like two expectant parents!
I'm going to the shelter today to speak to the woman in charge to see if we can take him home soon. When we went there yesterday to visit him, they told us that chances are he won't even be seen today b/c they're busy with "paying" patients. So we inquired about him being done on Tuesday and they told us they only do the feral cats on Tuesday, so now we're not sure when we'll be able to take him home.
That's where I'm stepping in!!! It was suggested we speak to the woman in charge today and see if she'll let us take him home today or tomorrow with the understanding that we have to bring him back to be fixed. Heck, if they want, I'll make the appointment for him today. I'm even prepared to sign a contract saying we'll bring him to be fixed. We just want to take our pup home!!!
So wish me luck today!!! 
New UPDATE 1/28/08
Ok, so I'm back from visiting Arnold at the shelter and though I didn't get to speak to the boss lady, I was able to talk to the girls in the office and explain my situation. They in turn, I guess, spoke to the Vet and werea able to Arnold in tomorrow to be neutered. So, if all goes well, we'll be taking him home Wednesday.
My visit with him today was GREAT!! He was super playful, exploring everything and climbing all over my legs. He even licked my nose! We really had fun together. I was so sad when the time came for me to leave.

He is soooooo cute!!!!!!!! I love the name Arnold for him but I can see why, if you adopt a young dog, you might want to give a name that you pick on your own.

Jennie, I am home and finally able to write to you. I am so happy for you! At least you can go buy all the things he will need while he is in getting his surgery. So sad you could not take him home.

Danny really wants to get a dog this summer, and the shelter will be our first stop.
